just finished reading "Satan, Fallen Angels, and Demons" by Gordon Lindsay. This was published by The Voice of Healing in Dallas, Texas but does not have a copyright date. The Voice of Healing later became known as Christ for the Nations and is known by that name today. This small book (20 chapters, 161 pages) was part of a correspondence course. I have had this book for close to 50 years. I had read it once before but it was many years ago.

Social Ethics in the Making, Interpreting an American Tradition, and the personal memoirs of U.S. Grant.
The former is a slow read containing a great deal of information on how the social gospel ushered in the social ethics of today.
Grant's book is well written and I'm flying through it.

Sam, I noticed you mentioned Bro Brock, my niece and her husband used to go to their church in Indianapolis. Do you remember a blind lady by the name of Sis Francis Scott? I kept her in my home a few Mo. Until her son could come and get her. She also went to Bro Brocks Church,

I notice you are doing some studies on Prophecy, I finished and got published a book on Prophecy last year. If you have a Kindle, Amazon has it for $5.00.
I think the paperback is overpriced at 15.95, therefore I’ve been wanting to republish it with Kindle and make the price $.99. Or maybe free.

The name of the book is “Red Horse Rising.”

If you read it, I'd like to have some feedback.

Bishop G.R. Brock was the Presiding Bishop of an organization called The Church of Jesus Christ Pentecostal Faith. He pastored a church in Indianapolis at one time. My wife and I went there in late summer or early fall 1959. Our first son, Chris, was born in November that year. I'm attaching a picture of us at Bishop Brock's church. We got a ride up there on a Saturday from a woman who lived here in Cincinnati and she preached that night. She and her husband left after the service and my wife and I spent the night with Bishop and Sis. Brock. They lived in a garage on the property of one of the Church members. It was one room but one corner of it was curtained off as their bedroom. My wife and I slept on a couch in the living room area. I preached Sunday morning and then my wife and I returned to Cincinnati on a bus.

At one time there were 3 churches here in the Cincinnati area who were affiliated with the CoJCPF. I have preached in all three of them. I had a license with them for a few years even though I was going to a UPC church. When we started going to an ALJC church I let my license expire.

Bishop Brock died in 1968. Sis Brock lived until 1994. I only saw Bishop Brock a few times in the early 1960's here in Cincinnati, at his church in Indianapolis, and at the headquarters church in Niles, Michigan. I understand that he later got some form of cancer which resulted in the removal of his voice box or something. In 1971 the CoJCPF merged with the original CoJC which was chartered in 1927.

In 1959 I had joined the CoJC (chartered in 1927 by Bishop Mark Lawson) while I was in a convention in Charleston, WV. Then after I returned to Cincinnati I sent my license back to Bishop Lawson because I was attending a UPC church and doing some teaching and preaching there. Also, my pastor was District Superintendent of the Ohio District of the UPC and I thought I might get in trouble belonging to a different organization.

Sam, You are just full of information. I knew several in the UPC, that you probably knew also. But as i was in the UPC most of my life, I know very little about the other Organizations.

1) The Calvary Church, pastored by Norman Paslay

a little history of these churches:

I think it was in 1925 or maybe 1920 that Rev. Frank Curts came from Indiana and took over as pastor of a small group that had split off another Jesus Name Church in the Cincinnati area. I think the pastor of the other Church had the last name of Washington and a Bro Brown split the church. The group that left (only a few) chose Bro. Curts as pastor. One of the names the new church under Bro. Curts used was Bethlehem Tabernacle. This name was later changed to First Apostolic Church. At that time there were some (don't know how many) Jesus Name churches in the city of Cincinnati. The church pastored by Bro. Curts was a white church and the others were either black or mixed.

In 1945 the church pastored by Bro. Curts had a split. Another congregation was formed called The Full Gospel Church which for a while had a UPC pastor but later (I think 1951) chose Joe Sizemore as pastor. Later a new building in the Carthage area was built and they took the name Carthage Apostolic Church. A newer Church was built later and the name changed to Covenant Apostolic. Under Joe Sizemore this church became an ALJC (Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ) church. I think it was AMC (Apostolic Missionary Council) at first but when the ALJC organization was formed in 1952 or some time after it became part of the ALJC. This Church had a split in the 1970's and a UPC church in a nearby city (Loveland, OH) was established.

Meanwhile around 1968 at First Apostolic pastored by Frank Curts, there was a falling out with his assistant pastor, Norman Paslay and Bro. Curts brought in Leroy Buller and installed him as assistant pastor. Bro. Paslay and a group left and formed what is now the Calvary Church pastored by Bro. Paslay's son. This church is about 2 miles from where I live. I think for a while the Calvary Church and First Apostolic held separate UPC youth rallies but later started to fellowship one another.

First Apostolic had a congregation too small for their building after Bro. Paslay and many others left. So the building was sold and property bought and they met in a house on the property until the present building was built. Leroy Buller retired as pastor but remains as Bishop. There have been a two or three pastors over the past few years. The current pastor is Joel Urshan.

When Bro. Sizemore died the Covenant Apostolic Church chose Shelley Hendricks as pastor. He is still pastor but the name of the church has been changed to Northpoint Community Church. It is still listed as Covenant Apostolic in the UPC listing but I think they are actually affiliated in some way with Joel Osteen. Quite a few people have left this church and now attend First Apostolic or the Calvary Church

I had 2 good Pastors. You might remember Bro Bibbs, he was a good teacher.
Also Bro Buller, but not the same one you mentioned, he also was a good man and good teacher.

I wasn't personally aquinted witht eh Urshans, but I had been to their church several times, and then at the Camp meetings.

I just finished reading "Standing in the Gap" by William Branham. It is a small book of 40 pages. It is a message he preached in Jeffersonville, IN on Sunday morning June 23, 1963. It has a copyright of 2002.

Something interesting to me:

"All those honest and true Lutheran, Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, and whoever is born of the Spirit of God will be caught away with Jesus Christ when He comes. I believe that. ...Presbyterian, Lutheran, Baptist, whoever that's born of the Spirit of God, shall go in that Rapture. I believe that the Bride will be called out during that time. i believe there will be some in the last days won't have to taste death, but will be changed in a moment, a twinkling of an eye."

I like to read when I lay down at night, but holding a book hurts my neck, so i got a Kindle, and now no problem, it is so light.

Amazon has some great books that you can get on Kindle. I have just about finished reading a book called Pagan Christianity I found on Amazon. I think you would really enjoy it. Also, I have recently enjoyed reading some of Catherine Marshall's books, especially the one "Beyond Ourselves."

It's been years since I've read it but I would recommend it.

"Beyond Ourselves" was also good and so was "Something More" by her and so was "A Man Called Peter."

Years ago at our UPC church we watched the movie "A Man Called Peter." I think it was at a youth meeting.

That's funny Sam, I have "The Helper" sitting on my desk to read next! I ordered it from Amazon along with Beyond Ourselves.

Two weeks ago we just watched the movie "A Man Called Peter". It was so good that we watched it twice. Got it from netflix. It was a wonderful inspirational movie.

Any other recommendations? Seems we have books on the same reading list :)

I hadn't read her either in years, but was at a local church thrift store, and found the book "Beyond Ourselves" for 25 cents. Couldn't pass up that deal! So I took it home, and it has become one of the best books I've ever read. I especially like what she labels the "prayer of helplessness". When you reach the end of all your resources, you come to a place where you must pray that prayer of helplessness, and relinquishment, in order to see the mercy of God extended in your life.

I would highly recommend this book (and others she wrote) because her thoughts are presented in such a concise, analytical and thought provoking way, and yet it is like you are sitting down next to her, visiting, and having conversation, so easy are her books to read.

and again, we see in Peter Marshall (a Presbyterian) and in his wife and widow Catherine a reality in their walk with God and an experience with God that some of our preachers say cannot be because they "don't know the truth." Amazing how God does not share our concern for "the truth" and just lives in and blesses and uses people whose hearts are open to Him.

just finishing reading The Prayer Warrior's Way by Cindy Trimm, copyright 2011. The author takes the various parts of what we commonly call The Lord's Prayer and devotes a chapter to each of them. Each chapter is meant to bring these principles into our every day lives.

I used to have an 8 page..booklet titled “The Name of Gods Church.”..
On the cover it says that was written by W.E. Smith of Dyersburg, TN and that the price is 75 cents...
I don’t remember where or when I got it but it was probably in the late 1950's.
It does not have a copyright date...
Inside the front cover is printed:
The Church of Jesus Christ
977 Chase Street
Gary, Indiana
Elder Ernest Arthur, Pastor.

I guess there is no zip code because they were not yet in use when this booklet was printed.

Anyway, I gave the book away a couple years ago. I have it in pdf format and it is 11 pages. I mentioned the book on Facebook and someone asked about it.

So I searched for it on my computer, found it and I just re-read the pdf version.
