Is This for Real?

I received this in my inbox today. The sender was anonymous. It had been sent to a whole bunch of people. Is this for real?

Dear Brother,

It is evident that we are in sad, tumultuous times. The vote for the acceptance of T.V. (which, as we all know, is really what it was) seems to have been 'the straw that broke the camel's back' for many, many people. I am amazed at the deep, heart felt response from so many that cannot and will not go in that direction. This speaks well for the many that still really want to do what's right. As for the UPC, truly, God only knows what this vote has brought upon it. As far as I'm concerned, it is a heartbreaking tragedy of immense proportions. However, I do know that the UPC will always have within its ranks some of the greatest people in the world.

But, yes, there definitely is a meeting, an 'Apostolic Summit' that is going to take place, and where a different direction will be offered. It will convene Thursday night, Jan. 24th and all day & night Friday the 25th. It will be held at the Green Country Convention Center, Tulsa, OK. There will be an announcement sent to every licensed minister in the UPC.

The men at present who are directly involved in this formation are thus far are Johnny Godair, Kenny Godair, Floyd Odom, Crawford Coon, Nate Wilson and myself. We are resolved to go all the way and it seems that there is a host of others ready to do the same.

PLEASE believe me when I say that I AM NOT nor will I EVER be interested in another 'AMF' spirit and attitude. It has and has had many very good men in it, some of which are good friends, but too many within its ranks (not all, thank God) increasingly lent themselves to critical bombast until there is now basically nothing left.

God Bless,
You're a Good Man!
Hope to See You There,
LLB

"Anonymous" but signed "LLB." A "different direction will be offered." It seems that the writer is trying avoid sounding like this is a solicitation, however it's hard to view the whole thing any other way.

They want to proselytize "every licensed minister in the UPC" but not come right out and say that is what they are doing. I personally am disappointed in the way they appear to be going about this.

It just seems like so much of the same old thing that put me off toward the UPCI several years ago. They dance around crafting what they say to try and avoid ever being pinned down to a real stand. Then they tell you that the whole dance was neccesitated by their need to "take a stand." It's like trying to nail jello to the wall.

Ask them, "Specifically, take a stand where...?" and the music starts again and they all start dancing. Is this a new org? More dancing.

Steadfast told us of a UPC official who shows up at a meeting with one of the coordinators and we're told there is no intention of a split. We are assured that all that kind of talk is just hype. Then an "anonymous(?)" email goes out apparently signed by one of the coordinators- he says "a new direction" but we won't act like the AMF when we leave.

Dance, dance wherever you may be...

It is the signature of the original author.

The implication is that it is from Larry Booker.

I'm not sure if I believe it though.

The email I received had been forwarded to many addresses.
