Question New York Restaurant Suggestions

What are some good restaurants in New York? We have decided to go Thanksgiving weekend. Last year when we went, we couldn’t find many restaurants that looked good. I don’t mind paying money for good food but I sure do dislike paying lots of money for food that isn’t good. Any suggestions? We are also going to try to go into Brooklyn. Any good restaurants there?

Some of my faves:
Angels - (Italian) - around 61st & 1st, I think

Il Palazzo - Mulberry St. (Little Italy).

69 Mott Street - Chinatown (Chinese)

Grimaldi's Pizza - under the Brooklyn Bridge, on the Brooklyn side. Definitely worth finding!! It's a hole-in-the-wall place, but a famous pizza place.

Rosie O'Grady's (Irish) - 2 locations, one near Times Square and one a little further north on 7th Ave.

Sal Anthony's - (Italian) - in Little Italy, probably on Mulberry St. too.

Buttercup Bakery - I think at 51st & 2nd, or very close to there. Worth going to for homemade cupcakes and other desserts. The spice cupcakes with cream cheese icing are amazing! They also have German Chocolate ones and several more bland ones. But trust me, the spice cake ones are the BEST!! We go here everytime we go to NY.

Just a word of advice if you're going to the Parade, get there very early or you will be in the back of the crowd. We got there at 7 am, on the south side (near Macy's) and we were right up front at the police barracades, but we had to stand there for about 3 hours before we saw anything. That was the coldest I've ever been in my life (in 2000)! The next year it was about 55 degrees at Thanksgiving, so you never know! Lots of people watch the parade from their hotel windows, but it's just not the same as being down in the excitement of the crowd.

Where are you staying?

Dallas BBQ. Several locations but the one I ate at was in Manhatten just a couple of blocks off Central Park just two or three buildings down from The Dakota building where John Lennon was shot (everybody will know where that is if you ask). The restaurant is in the same building as a Hotel but has it's own entrance outside on the Sidewalk. It is a lot bigger than it looks on the outside. It has been a few years since I ate there but the food was awesome and the best price of any meal in Manhatten we ate at.

My wife has since eaten at a BBQ place near Times Square called Virgils that she says was excellent but quite a bit more expensive than Dallas.

If you are in NY, especially in Brooklyn....you have to go to Peter Luger's steakhouse....rated #1 for 23 yrs in a row

see link: http://www.peterluger.com/

and for reviews see: http://www.peterluger.com/ravereviews.cfm

"Devout" carnivores go on "pilgrimages" to this "venerable" Williamsburg cow "Valhalla" that's our surveyors' choice as the No. 1 steakhouse in NYC for the 23rd year running; its "matchless" "marbled beef" is of such "juicy" "perfection" that fans freely forgive the "crusty" service and "macho" "Bavarian beer hall" setting; they also say "fugeddabout the menu" and stick with those porterhouses, and "bring lots of cash" to cover those plastic-less "prime" prices.

I was disappointed in Lugers. The atmosphere was great but I have had better steaks especially for the price444444444444.
