My husband and I recently moved from one house to another house.
The house we had been renting since moving to WI is owned and had been occupied by an apostolic church family. The home we just moved into is owned and had been occupied by non-church people for many years. I'm not sure that it has ever been occupied by church people.
Anyway, to make a long story short, in this new house there is a total different "feel". Theres a sense of peace and contentment that was strangely missing at the other house. There seemed to be alot of tension at the other house that is not present in this new house.
I know there have been many "family" problems of various types that existed for the owners and one time occupants of our previous house. I know very little about those that occupied our new home. I just know theres something vastly different about the two homes.
I'm not one to look for devils under every bush but it seems to me that we have escaped from a stronghold and I'm glad! I know some people believe in having homes prayed for and even anointed with oil when they move in. Perhaps this isn't a bad idea!
Any thoughts or opinions on this matter out there? I'd like to hear some.
Strange that you would post about this, because I can tell a difference in the 'feel' and I don't even live there. I did, however, live at the other house for about a year after moving here, and I totally understand what you are talking about.
I won't add comments since I know the situation, but I'm also interested in the comments from others. I just didn't know that you felt there were strongholds, but it makes sense to me.

I have experienced this as well. When very new in the church, my son who is very sensitive sensed and even saw things that I did not. When I sold that place and bought another one, a lady from church asked if I wanted her to come over and we could pray through every room of the house. We did it. I also don't look for devils under every bush, but there's never any harm in prayer!
It can be the neighborhood that the house is situated in.When we were in Abbeville our home sat away from all others. There was a great peace there.
Now we are right in the middle of city life, fire trucks going by,EMT's going by,
people walking up and down the road. The only peaceful time is early morning
hours. The neighborhood has alot to do with it.
We bought our home new in 1989, so we were the only ones that had ever lived there. However, after my husband moved out 2003, I felt to have a special prayer and blessing (annointing) said over my home.
A dear couple (my mentors) brought oil and we stood in my family room, we read a scripture or two and said a special blessing - - it was refreshing because not having a husband to represent the "spiritual head" I felt it was important to ask God to protect my home and my family.

I agree, but in this case, both houses are on farms. No neighborhoods around for miles. It's great!

I've always been taught that princes rule areas such as countries, cities, etc. I guess I tend to believe that houses constitute an "area" as well.
But I'm interested in more comments.
I for one do not believe that spirits live in inanimate objects, like wood or rooms made of wood.
I have been in the depths of some of the most awful buildings for all intents and purposes should have been posessed, but because I did not give place in my own mind or imagination to these kinds of things, to me they were wood hay and stubble.
The feel you are having may relate to a similar looking building or room where you had a spiritual experience with people who were there at the same time.

Although you and me disagree on many topics, I side with your general assessment.... through the years, I have visited numerous places that seem to abound in the general feeling or presense of "peace".... although your reference to "strongholds" over cities, regions, and countries is Biblically correct, I'm not honestly sure if that holds true at the "micro-level" of a home, business or office....
If I had to try and explain it, its almost like a residue of "things past".... almost like the aroma of a perfume or cologne; the person or being that created the "residue" isn't there any longer but the evidence of their presence still exists and resides there until something else replaces it....
I have known of people that annointed their dorm room, home, etc.... prayed peace over the room/home/etc to make it a safe haven.... and dedicate all that happens there to God's glory....
I will watch this thread with interest....
