Taking the Lord's name in vain.
Is it taking the Lord's name in vain to say "Oh My G_ _"?

According to my convictions, no. God is not his name. You may be taking his title in vain, but not his name

I agree, God is Not His Name!!! But I don't think it should be used as lightly as it is today.

My mother is a great proponent of sustituting Gosh and Heck in phrases that usually have God and Hell.
I always tease her about and say stuff like "Who's Gosh, and why would he care?" or "Where's heck and why don't you want to go there"
And then one day, I saw this bumpersticker that made me laugh so hard, that I had to call her right away and tell her. It said "Heck is where people go who don't believe in Gosh"

I think it is "funny" that people with think nothing of saying "Jesus" when they are angry or whatever........but they would flip out if someone said "Oh My God."

Yes it is. If it is not, what does it mean and why do you say it?
jeez / dʒiz/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ jeez] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –interjection (used as a mild expression of surprise, disappointment, astonishment, etc.)
[Origin: 1920–25, Americanism; euphemistic shortening of Jesus]

When I say it, it means the other word for "dang" followed by "it".

It doesn't mean anything to me. It's just a sound of frustration with no attached meaning. Just because some guy in 1920 decided it was a way that he could get away with saying Jesus, doesn't mean it means the same thing to me.
