My son Colby wants to share his thoughts with AFF reg Disney Movie
Colby age 9
My 9 yr old son has approached me about doing a "thread" on his thoughts about the recent DVD release of "Bridge to Terabithia".
He handed me a piece of paper with these words:
"There is a movie called Bridge to Terabithia, I think you all have heard of it. Well I'm surprised that Disney would make a movie with cussing and one of the main characters dies."
He would like your thoughts on the matter--

I don't know anything about the movie, but I think Colby is one smart and adorable kid!!! And I agree that Disney has recently really pushed the limits on some of its movies. They are no longer a kid-friendly company, in my opinion.

Smart boy. Disney is pushing the limits. They will creep things in little by little.. and eventually it will be accepted. That's how it goes. There's an agenda, whether people want to accept that or not.

Hello Colby,
My name is Steve.
This is a very good observation about this movie. It is very important that we evaluate what we see on TV or even the internet.
Many people are not Christian and I think you can help people make better choices not only about shows but even in real life.
I would encourage you to send some comments and your picture to Disney and let them know you were disappointed.
Steve Hoover

Colby,
You seem like an intelligent young man, and with that smile, you will be famous one day, I am sure!
At one time in America, the man known as "Uncle Walt" made movies loved by many. In time, Walt died, and his company was turned into a large corporation. One day, the men who are in charge of this large movie gave the leadership to a man who did not do as Uncle Walt, but was only interested in making more money. NO matter who protested (even Christians) about what the huge company did, if they made money they did not heed the protests. Sadly, the movies that are promoted by Disney are sometimes totally against our Christian principles as you have seen.
What do you, being wise and full of questions, offer for a solution to this?
What would you like to tell the man in charge of the movie studio now?

Berk,
This is the reason that some hold such a strong stand against tv. Because the erosion is so subtle that many do not realize that they are slowly becoming desensitized to things of this world. The fact is, we are not even supposed to think upon corrupt and evil things, much less find our entertainment in such. Our thoughts are to be on things that are good and pure. This knocks 9/10ths of todays entertainment out the door.
Colby has a good eye for things that are good and pure. As he continues to abstain from things that are not, and fills himself with the good things of God, God will visit him in a greater degree.

I saw the movie with my kids. The cussing was inexcusable. But the story about the girl dying is a very important one that kids have to deal with in life. I think that part was innocent. It is a fact that sometimes children die. The girl died in the story and the young friend she had was to deal with it somehow.
The error in how he dealt with it was through an imaginary world. That is wrong. We cannot deal with things that way. We deal with them through Jesus. But the part of her dying was not wrong for kids to see.

I am beginning to lean in the "no tv" direction. I've noticed a lot lately.

Colby's response to this post and the others:
"I was surprised because I have never actually seen a Disney movie with cussing, but maybe if I can remember some main character dying.
Well its surprising as you all probably know, but the movies today are not as likable as the originals were for me, but I mean, I'm just a kid! But I cant think of much to say for now."
folks these are his words! I asked him to write them down and this is what he gave me!

Give him a big hug, and tell him that Daddy is proud of him.
