Like Magic or like Kobe
I know some people who will think that to use such an analogy is carnal, but they must admit then that Paul was carnal. He used sports a lot.
Those of you that understand sports and especially can remember back to the Laker dynasty with magic will understand.
What made that team so great? It was Ervin Magic Johnson. How did he make it so great? It was not the fact that he just scored scored scored...everyone knew this and spoke if it often. Magic MADE all the other players better than what they were. Magic was the kind of player that saw what others on his team could do and facilitated their abilities into the team spirit. He made his team good rather than trying to look good.
Kobe, on the other hand, most agree is a one man showboater. He can score, no doubt about it, but he lacks true leadership skills when it comes to making the team work as a team. His view seems to be the team is there for him, so he can score. Even when the Lakers had Shaq, they were good, but they got into the finals by the seats of their pants in some cases if it were not for a last second three pointer. But most people admit that a lot of the problem was the egos of Kobe and Shaq clashing.
I was just wondering how much do we have that Magic mentality in our churches or ministries? Is our "ministry" just about telling others what to do or not do or do we cultivate their God given abilities to make them better? Magic was very unselfish on the court, but as a result he ended up being still one of the greatests NBA players ever...and he could score very much as anyone and put a lot of points on the board, but he was well known for how he passed the ball to others, even when he could have taken the shot himself.
Just a thought. Have you edified someone today? Is ministry to the body just about reminding them what not to do?
1Co 16:15 I beseech you, brethren, ye (know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)
