The politicians aren't "dumb", they know exactly what they're doing. It's just that what we hire them to do, and what they actually choose to do, are two very different things. They don't work for our interests.

Consider who is more of a threat:

Camel riding peasants some 10,000 miles away who believe the sun actually sets into a western mud pit?

vs

Politicians in DC, London, Paris, Berlin who import 100,000s of those camel riders into our countries, supply them with money, provide close air support and food and weapons resupply (including pick up trucks!) for their "brothers" in Iraq, Syria, and Libya, etc etc etc?
