Priebus: WH "looking at changes" to 1A
I posted about this during the primary. Trump kept making statements about wanting to change 1A to allow news media to be sued for what they publish.
This morning WH Chief of Staff, Priebus was on ABC and admitted the WH has been discussing ways to expand libel laws and limit press freedoms just so the thin-skinned POTUS can sue them if he doesn't like what they publish.
If they try to do this, it will not only fail, but the GOP will lose in '18 and Trump will be out of office in '20, replaced by a liberal Democrat.
Trump is doing exactly what I thought he would do.
The single good thing he's done thus far is nominate Gorsuch to SCOTUS. Everything else has been a failure.

Re: Priebus: WH "looking at changes" to 1A
I do partly agree with you, but on the other hand I also believe the state-run-media...err, lame-stream-media....err, mainstream media (that was it) have got away with lying to the public for far too long. Not just lies by omission either, they've blatantly lied to the people. Then they hide behind the 1st amendment as a cover for their deception and treachery.
I don't believe we should remove protections of the 1st amendment (I believe everyone should have the right to free speech, no matter what that speech is); but while everyone has the right to say what they want, they still should be able to be held accountable for what they say.
For example, while it was conceded some time ago that you actually can yell fire in a crowded theater, you could be held liable for any physical damage or injuries that occur if there's not actually a fire.
Similarly, just because the LSM can tell lies on their shows via the 1A, it doesn't mean they can't be held accountable for telling those lies. That's where the court system would come in, to determine if a lawsuit is justified.
So, depending on how Trump moves forward on this, I might actually agree with him. It just depends on the form this ultimately takes. We'll have to wait and see what they do with this.

Re: Priebus: WH "looking at changes" to 1A
The problem is they start with "media lies" and then it will be "hate speech" and then forget about it, 1A is gone completely.
Let the public punish lying media. They rely on advertising and people watching. Prove they're lying and put pressure on advertisers.
Trump hasn't proven any lies. And if he wants to prosecute lies, the WH has told some whoppers as well.
No, the answer is not to prosecute lies or the press. Stay away from 1A.

On many unfulfilled promises, "moderate" GOP members of Congress are the problem, not Trump. They would be treating Ted Cruz no differently on border security and repealing Obamacare.

It is sick. Trump needs to appeal to GOP voters in districts of these moderates. Else he will be forced to veto the budget.

Y'all still think "The Process™" is going to work? Normalcy bias - learn what it is, and how to treat it.
Oh, and read this bit of tinfoil hattery:
"...accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

The Republican-led Congress is going to pass a 1 TRILLION dollar spending bill, which continues funding of Planned Parenthood and sanctuary cities. Wasn't it just a couple months ago the WH and Trump supporters were talking how Congress finally defunded PP? That was short-lived.
With conservatives like these . . .
