Which translation do you use and why?

I came across an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist who tried to convince me that the KJV is the infallible Word of God. With things like the Comma Johanneum, I'm not sure I can agree.

I use the KJV because of its language. I like the poetic feel. But I know that it isn't perfect. I use multiple versions when studying, but mostly the KJV.

What about you?

Mostly KJV... like 95% of the time... I understand the language well enough and it's familiar....

I like the message and ESV as well.

I use the KJV about 70 percent of the time, but I usually check the text with other versions.

I am multiversional, not a KJV Only fanatic

I use the KJV and the Septuagint (Brenton's Interlinear) and Berry's Interlinear Text us Receptus. I haven't found any other versions that are actually useful to me.

Re: Which translation do you use and why?

I mostly use the KJV. That's what I grew up with and all the Churches in my area use it. It's what I preach from and carry to other Churches when I visit. I do this because there are more important things to have to defend and argue than which translation I'm using. It's what I'm use to and what I've memorized verses from. When I'm quoting Scripture in conversation I sometimes quote it exact and sometimes I modernize it.

I also use the NKJV. I like it because of the textual notes, the modern language, and I like the Byzantine text. I also like the layout of the text. Sometimes I read and study from it more than the KJV. I've considered switching our Church to NKJV so the kids are not hearing words that we don't use the same way anymore. I end up modernizing some of the language as I read from the KJV.

The next one I use is the ESV, and sometimes NASB and NIV.

KJV first because I memorized scripture from it. Next is the NKJV because it retains the Byzantine Text and is easier reading.

Re: Which translation do you use and why?

I've posted it before, but the one thing I love about the KJV is the "thee's, thou's, thy's and thine's" and the "ye's, you's and your's", but not for why you may think. It's not just because I like the language, but because of the reasons behind the differences.

As I understand it, every time the word translated had a singular connotation, they used the "th" (thee, thou, etc), and every time it was translated with a plural connotation, it was translated with a "y". Every single time that God is referenced in the Bible, they use the "th" version, indicating a singular connotation.

Thus reinforcing and reemphasizing the Oneness of God.

KJV or hell-fire! I will not touch a Nearly Inspired Version bible! [tic]

I like the KJV, but I also read the NKJV and NASB. I used to read The Message, but I've found it riddled with false doctrine and won't read it anymore.
