Chapter Six

Third Part of Men

Loose the four angles which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
And the four angles were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and
a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

What solemn, holy words are these. The sixth trumpet… the second woe… is simply gigantic. Its ominous thirty-four verses reach across three chapters of the Revelation. Aside from our text; it includes yet another mighty angel descending from heaven, and John eating the small book in his hand. It includes measuring the temple of God, the seven thunders, and the two witnesses… slain and resurrected. And it closes with another great earthquake, killing seven thousand in one blow. It is a trumpet voice of vast spiritual activity, and massive earthly consequence.
Beginning, then, with these four angels. Who knew; that throughout our everyday lives… serving the Lord… raising kids… working… here lurked this mystery. All the while, four mighty angels have been bound in the river Euphrates. How many of us, or our fathers, or our grandfathers, ever gave their imprisonment a second thought? Are there others rivers were angels are bound? Are they bound in mountains? In trees? In stars? Scripture speaks of angels bound in chains of darkness; of angels or spirits locked in a bottomless pit, and now four angels bound in the great river Euphrates. And in all cases of their release, they are hell-bent on death and destruction.
The four angels are given power, and assigned a moment, to slay one-third of men. That is death on a very large scale. Two and one-half billion souls, by todays count… or about 600 million souls per angel. To issue death on such a huge scale, it stands that a transition must take place. A transition between the angel’s invisible, spiritual world, and our physical one. Having at last burst free from the river; the powerful influences of these four angels, must be made manifest and felt, in our real-life physical world. Somehow, they must cross over.
Which brings us to the blessedness of Job. A man whom my Lord boasted of in the devil’s face. A vessel highly favored in the halls of heaven, for his walk with God. And a man chosen to force the devil’s hand; exposing him naked for all to see, even until today.

Satan…a spiritual being…was first given power over all that Job had:

Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thy hand.

Satan already had power…only now…Job’s family and possessions were put in his power…in his hand. And because of Job, we today can stand back and see; how it is that Satan’s power makes that mysterious transition, from their spiritual world, to our physical one. It arrives through the spirits of men, and the forces of nature.

The oxen were plowing, and the mules feeding beside them: and the Sabeans fell upon them and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Here: Satan’s power has trickled down…through whatever spiritual government and structure…to the spirits of men. Through these men working in concert…a brutal band called the Sabeans…Satan’s power is manifest as murder, pillage, and mayhem.

And behold there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead: and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

This time, Satan’s power is manifest in controlling the forces of nature, for death and destruction. But unwittingly; Satan…in his bid to make Job curse God…has shown us his hand.

Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

Disease…physical affliction…pain and suffering…all begin in the spiritual world before they find their way in us, just as Job’s boils and sores.

So confident was my Lord in his solid servant Job, that we today are blessed with four timeless examples, of how a spiritual being’s influence, is at last revealed in the flesh.

At the sixth trumpet, billions of men are under the ubiquitous magnetic sway of these four loosed angels. And the end of their spiritual/physical transition; is that men…clay vessels quickened by the breath of life…will slay one-third of mankind. Men’s hands…under the subtle but choleric influences, exerted by these four angels…just as with the Sabeans. Having been given leave by my Lord; these loosed angels…and their far-reaching networks…will incite the spirits of men to kill and be killed. Man against man.

What a horrible trumpet judgment this is. My Lord’s book is now open; and woe, how devastating is this second woe. A full one-third of humanity, slain before the eyes of the other two-thirds.

And we are only nine verses along, in the thirty-four verses, of this sixth trumpet.
