Clearly (I think!) satire, but this is pretty much how it is taught and preached by every teacher/preacher I've ever heard address the subject. "You can't afford not to tithe!" they like to say. They strongly imply, if not directly state, that if you tithe, you will not have any financial problems.
But no, it doesn't really work that way. Not in my experience.
