"Reagan the RINO"

An interesting article to put today's maniacally insane rhetoric against President Obama in the context of the Reagan Administration.

Re: "Reagan the RINO"

Oh please.

Come on Jermyn, its a different time, different problems to solve.

One question. Did we experience a recession during Reagan ?

No.

Did Reagans policies lead to a recession even after he left office ?

No.

The author is correct though, Reagan wouldn't stand a chance in the election today. He would actually be willing to do what has to be done, which as evidenced by the Gov Scott recall, would not be very popular.

Re: "Reagan the RINO"

Those of us old enough to have lived and voted for President Reagan know that there are two truths involved here;

1. First and foremost Reagan was a man of principle who stuck to his economic philosophy and program even when it meant he had to go over the head of Congress and directly to the American people in speeches to get them to pressure congress to pass the legislation.

2. Secondly I do agree that the tea party of today and many radical conservatives would not have liked Reagan because he was a person of compromise. He understood and publicly said that to get 75% of what you want is better than getting 0%. Just like he said he supported the most conservative candidate running THAT COULD WIN. A philosophy I share but which the logic of seems to escape tea party folks and many other conservatives today. You are not going to elect the same kind of Republican in Maine or Mass. as you can in the South. However better to have a moderate Repub in those states than a liberal Democrat who is going to vote 100% of the time lockstep with the Nancy Pelosi's and Harry Reids of this world.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: "Reagan the RINO"

JD - incredibly bad writing. No sources, few facts, few figures. Looks like an opinion piece.
If you want to read an article on Reagan and taxes, with facts and stats, go here:

Snippets

Saying Ronald Reagan raised taxes is like saying Michael Jordan was a guy who struck out a lot — or that he was a failed baseball player: It’s factually correct, but misleading, nonetheless.

When Democrats or media embrace Reagan for “raising taxes X number of times,” they are usually engaging in willful obfuscation. This is because they know that when most people hear the words, “tax hike,” they naturally assume you mean raising income taxes. But tax rates (both nominal and effective) dropped dramatically across-the-board during Reagan’s tenure.

Not only did the top individual income tax rate go from 70 to 28 percent! — but the tax code was also indexed for inflation (this is a big deal, because inflation had heretofore pushed people into higher tax brackets — a double whammy.)
