Dear Scott
I have interviewed plenty of canditates and most of the time, people who interview are not well prepared. They only look good in the Resume because usually someone elese wrote their resume, but in the interview they have to prove themselves in the first 15 minutes.
I have rejected people right of the bat when they show up late, being late clearly shows that they do not care about the Job. I simply do not even bother to give them the interview.
I rejected people for not dressing professionally, I usually sen them back telling them that this is a professional interview and they need to dress properly, If someone comes in dressed shabily I may conduct a courtesy interview, but their manner of dressing clearly show me that they do not care to be professional.
I have carefully constructed my list of legally authorized questions to get information from the interview, I have avoided illegal questions or those which can be answered with a simple yes or no. All of my questions have been designated to get me information about the candidate qualifications, experience and fit into our corporate culture.
When people answer a question with a question, this is an imediate turn off for me. when they answer evasively this is another turn off, when people avoid giving me a full meaningful answer, it shows me they are not the people we need.
I have rejected people who deviate from the job interview, they go on tangets about other things, instead of being focused on the question asked.
I have rejected people who tell me their personal information, for if they can not keep their own personal information private, then I know they can not keep information confidential.
I have interviewed many people and have seen them hang themselves at the begining, the middle and even at the end of the Interview.
My advice to anyone who needs a job is to learn to interview well.
