The Death Penalty

Though all were used as instruments of carrying out the death penalty, we wouldn't wear any of them but one on a chain around our neck. Or hang it up in our house, or put one on top of our churches. So why is the Cross different than the Gas Chamber, the Electric Chair, or Lethal Injection?

Re: The Death Penalty

this is a good question Cindy. I have an opinion on the subject, but I'll wait and voice it later so as not to be the first target.

Re: The Death Penalty

We like irony and the cross is the ultimate expression of that. Our hope for eternal life was made possible by one of the worst life taking devices ever...

I'm sure for most, it's in the reverence of what the Saviour died upon, so that we might live.

Re: The Death Penalty

Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The cross reminds me of the "shame" our Lord endured to secure my salvation.... for this reason I am most appreciative of it, yet..... as a symbol of the eternal affect which the cross wrought, I cherish the open tomb even more, for had there been no resurrection of Christ, my belief and preaching concerning Him would be in vain. Yea, because He is alive, and lives forevermore, then I now have an assurance that I shall also overcome that "last enemy" - death - doing so by the same Spirit which dwells within my mortal body!

this is what I think also. It's a symbol of shame.
