Buy the Truth

Just food for thought but I've been on the back burner for almost 2 years while someone waited for me to die spiritually. Recently I started plugging back into a lot of forums, tweets, blogs and such throughout the entire movement and can't but notice that all many of our talking heads want to do is make money off their ministries!

What is going on with this and why aren't our ministers taking a public stand against this kind of thing?

I know from other forums that some sites will hammer you if you so much as attempt to inquire about an issue like that...as if you are somehow in rebellion if you even hint that someone they know is anything other than squeaky clean! I'm sorry, but a card in the pocket does not a calling make, nor does it put someone above reproach or inquiry.

Thoughts? Input?

Re: Buy the Truth

Not really a "deep waters" issue.

Re: Buy the Truth

I wouldn't consider much of what is in this thread "Deep Waters" issues.

So merchandising of God's people and ministries isn't deep waters...maybe deep dookie...but not deep waters... Hmmm.

Re: Buy the Truth

I agree with the sentiiment. Charging ffor cds, webcasts etc. some ministries like ihop.org provide all their material free.

Re: Buy the Truth

Many times these materials are used to help them get from one point to another, as well as supply money for their own lives. Paul made tents to help himself, others write books or sing. I do not see a problem with this, but I will not comment further as no examples were given as to what he means, and I will not speculate in ignorance.

Re: Buy the Truth

If people who profess to know the Lord would give like the bible teaches to give and would operate in the faith of that giving expecting to receive the harvest from the seed sown, then a lot of ministries would not have to beg, sell, and plead with people to help support the work Jesus called them to do.

I preached one time at a church and they took up an offering for my expenses. At the end of the service I was with the head deacon and pastor when they counted the money. The deacon said this is the offering for the evangelist, and this is the Sunday morning offering.

My offering was more than the Sunday morning offering. The pastor said, that can't be right,. So he gave me the smallest offering.

A lot of professing christian are greedy when it comes to giving to the work of the Lord, but when it comes to spending on themselves they don't have a problem at all.

Now, this post is not to say that I too agree against false pretense of those who profess Christ and try to manipulate believers out of money. These are the same evil just turned around backward.
