Dallas Church Search
Just curious to know of any independent, oneness charismatic churches in the Dallas, TX area, one whose foundation is based on Acts 2:38 but with a "seek your own salvation" consistency. To clarify, I'm not ineterested in a universal "appearance" standard. More of a universal fruits of the spirit; deep, passionate worship to usher in the Spirit of God; genuine, friendly people; children's church is important too. Much appreciated...

Re: Dallas Church Search
The UPCI has a church directory. They are accused of beeing too independent because the churches are independent and the pastors are the ones that hold the franchise.
In all the churches I visit on biz trips, I see a few that are passionate in worship in every church and many that are 2 prints on the pew.

Thanks for the info! I am familiar with their directory, but a majority of the churches in my neck of the woods are pretty well defined with what they believe. I saw it when I first walked in the door (appearance standard). Holiness is definitely something I stand for, though quite differently than traditional UPC. I think I'll keep searching...

Re: Dallas Church Search
Isn't Bishop T. D. Jakes' church in Dallas, Tx?
Why not go and visit his church-- even if for no other reason than for the experience.
If I ever decide to go to Dallas, I will visit his church.

Is Arlington too far?
-Independant-check
-Oneness-check
-Charismatic-ummm, depends on your view of charismatic. If your meaning believes in the gifts of the Spirit check, if your meaning gold dust, saran wrap, name it & claim it-thats not us/
-We have Acts 2:38 background, but believe in justification by faith
-Standards, we don't keep the UPC standards, we do believe in biblical standards of modesty in dress, as well as moderation in Chrisitan liberty being the rule of a life led by the Spirit (not mans rules).
-Passionate worship, check
-friendly, you better believe it
-childerns church, check
-and throw in racially, socially, and economically diverse

Re: Dallas Church Search
Yes, unfortunately, Jakes' church and Arlington both are at least 45 mins away from where I live. Uggh, surely there are others closer. I've checked out Covenant and Gateway, Covenant being closer -- I might have to go visit them. But, I wanted a forum's input as well...
Also, something else of even greater importance is community outreach involvement (i.e. prison ministry, feeding homeless, childrens/womens shelters, etc.)

We are getting these things going already, we had a great back to school carnival where we gave school supplies and backpacks away to low income households, I do jail ministry, we're doing some food things, and planning on really kicking off some new things in 2011.
Why so much "new" things? B/c we've been in transition mode over the last couple of years, and we are now settling into the church we ought to be, and that we believe God wants us to be, a church that can reach our city, not parade cookie cutter saints to a conference while our city remains unreached over clothes and hair styles.
PS-I drive 1 hour each way to church (55 miles). Because it is so difficult to find a church with all of these dynamics. There are churches that don't teach standards, but often times that is simply a cloak for worldliness. It is very difficult to find a "oneness" church with the things your looking for, as I've had those same concerns myself.
Best of luck, I tend to agree surely there must be something in Dallas, somwhere, nevertheless, if you'd like to visit, we'd love to meet you.

We've got work to do on our website, problem is, we don't know the PW, probably going to have to get a total makeover soon.
