Why Are We Doing This?

from: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_obama

Obama repeated his insistence that Republicans must drop stalling tactics on a bill to help small businesses when Congress returns next week from its summer recess.

And Obama insisted again that Bush-era tax cuts be extended for individuals earning less than $200,000 a year and joint filers earning less than $250,000. All the Bush tax cuts are to expire at the end of this year unless Congress acts.

Obama said Congress shouldn't delay extending the middle-class tax cuts any longer.

"Why hold it up? Why hold the middle class hostage?" he said.

He said extending tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans "is a bad idea."

So why are (Republicans) doing this? Why are we delaying him and his good ideas-- because he's a Democrat?

Why use political obstructionism to stop progress?

Is it fair to extend tax cuts for the Middle Class without extending them for all that they originally covered?

Most of those making over $200 grand a year are those who own small businesses. If the tax cuts expire for small businesses it will only serve to dampen an already dragging economy.

That's my understanding.

Re: Why Are We Doing This?

Obama is pushing a deceptive strawman and you fell for it.
The liar in chief did many times more damage to small business by his health insurance than this bill will touch.

Go ahead and gives us 3-4 examples from the bill that will benefit small business.

Liberals do not know what the bills cover and why they are just blabber from Obama to act like he is boosting business.

Possible criticism of the bills. Revenue estimates have increased the savings that restricting GRATs would provide:

•Fiscal Year 2011 Budget: $2.959B
•H.R. 4849: $4.450B
•H.R. 5486: $5.297B
See this blog post and its comments for a possible explanation or possible criticism: How much revenue would limiting GRATs raise over 10 years: $4.450 billion (H.R. 4849) or $5.297 billion (H.R. 5486)?

How does an incentive for reduction of sale of small business capital gains tax help boost revenue for a small business?

And it only applies to C corps.

Re: Why Are We Doing This?

2 more issues that mean most small business can't qualify. Only those with significant 179 purchase get extra depreciation.
The loan incentive are SBA fee reductions. if you are not borrowing money, this bill has no incentive.

Liberals get all excited about bills Obama will never read and his voters can't read.
Like i posted earlier, this bill will offset very little damage Obama has done to small business.
Writing off 5 grand in startup expenses for a small business? That is a joke. You can only write it off against income.

The "Bush Tax Cuts" were part of a comprehensive bill. Obama's scheme of "extending" part of those cuts is also a part of a larger more comprehensive bill. The Repubs aren't "stalling" on extending the Middle Class tax cuts. They are stalling in anticipation of a turn over in Congress that will allow them to rewrite the whole bill and cut government spending while also extending the tax cuts.

First of all 200k IS middle class nowadays. Everyone else are lower middle class/lower class. Taxing them will kill jobs. Those are most of the people that employ America. Why are we sticking it to these guys and not the CEOs that ran their businesses into the ground and ran off with several mill?

I don't get anywhere near 200k but Im not drooling for their money the rest of America is. It seems poor people in America have drunken the Chavez koolaid and blame the rich.

Second, until someone tells ME why THEY are doing this, I won't say anything. Often they do things like this because there are OTHER things tacked onto that bill they disagree with and this is a political move to try to make them look bad

Also Democrats are no strangers to obstructionism

I like CCh tax bulletins. Page 5 shows what is on the bill in dollar values. It is nearly wortheless for creating jobs. The republicans should reject it. The bill doesn't match what the title promises.

Re: Why Are We Doing This?

Why do we need MORE red tape? Just renew the Bush tax cuts. Resend the healthcare bill
