Ok, Now I Will Plea "Race"...
I don't care what anyone else says, there's no convincing me otherwise. This is my opinion and I am sticking to it.
There's no reason at all that the idea of a state-run militia to defend against the Federal Government's taxes would even get off the ground if it wasn't for the fact that this Democrat President is a black man.
Given Oklahoma's illustrious history when it comes to matters of race, it all solidifies it in my mind.
No I don't have any proof.
No I don't think that the idea has gotten to the place where some state lawmakers support this just because the Federal Executive is black.
It's just the gall and the resentment that this idea appears to be birthed from, and the anger it starts in me.
Ok. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong.

Your wrong!
Have you ever looked beyound race to actions? I could care less if he was a green spotted monkey, his actions are totally wrong.
PLUS it is not just BO but Peloski as well and the last time I checked she is white. So please tell me how race is the issue? I am SICK of racist making this statement!

JD - if you ignore the fact that BHO is trying to shove Big Brother down our throats 24/7 in every facet of life, by any possible means; if you ignore that BHO has become more private and off limits to the press than even W was; if you ignore that BHO's policies are strikingly far-left and socialist .... then sure I bet OK is doing this just because BHO is black. Yep, you nailed it.
That's probably why I don't like BHO either and why I'm against his administration. Probably even why I didn't vote for him.
His policies and behavior don't mean jack to me. All I'm checking out is what color his skin is.
Yep. Boy howdy you're smart to nail us on this!

Wrong.
Politics and policy matters. Freedom matters. Had this been a white President with the same politics and policy, the result would be the same.

I don't think you understand how upset people are over the healthcare bill. I'm from Oklahoma, and I can tell you that MANY people who are against the bill are Democratics and Independents. You might want to do your homework, Jermyn--the Tea Party isn't made up of a bunch of ignorant white supremacists, no matter what the press would have the gullible believe.
Why would it have anything to do with race? People know this is going to mean huge tax increases, and we're already paying out the yazoo. Oklahoma has a high state sales tax as well--we pay 10% on everything. My weekly grocery budget is $200.00, so I have to tack on an extra $20.00 a week for sales tax. That means our family pays at least $1,040.00/year in sales tax alone--and that's just on groceries. My husband is self-employed, and ends up owing over 30% of his income back to the federal and state government. We owe a couple of thousand in property taxes every year.
When you're on your own, these things may seem small, but when you have a family to care for, every little bit counts--and these are big chunks.
As for the state run militia thing--this was the more important comment from the article you referenced: "Isn't it really sad," says Tyler, "that we are in a state in our country where states are even considering having militias? I mean, goodness. We haven't seen that in what... like a hundred years?"
It goes directly to showing the mindset and panic people are feeling in regard to paying higher taxes.
It's really insulting (and distracting) for the race card to be played everytime people try to stand up for their rights. The colonists stood up to heavy-handed British taxation and regulation in the same way, and eventually won. The American way is to pursue independence and resist any infringement of the same. This is no different.
I don't even think about the fact that Obama is black until someone mentions it--but I hear it mentioned everytime anyone stands up and objects to the policies being pushed through Congress.
Personally, I can't believe you would actually fall for that.

Re: Ok, Now I Will Plea "Race"...
I was reading some on the Civil War today. This book was mentioned by Dr. J.H. Van Evrie. Originally published in 1861, it tries to scientifically show how black people are inferior to white people, to the point of comparing them to animals.
No matter what racism exists today, I cannot imagine living in a country where this view was accepted by a large part of the country. Coming from the south myself, it is a scary step back into the past. It is a good reminder of what racism really is.
As for the link in the OP's post, I have no issue with state run militias. I doubt they are doing this as a result from racism, but probably from a result of fear, be it real or imaginary

Racism is still a problem in the South, even though it's not as bad as it once was. However, the Tea Party isn't just made up of southerners or whites, so that theory really should be thrown out.
Sean Hannity had something interesting to say the other day. Apparently there are a group of people who are intent on "infiltrating" the tea party, and doing things like holding up misspelled signs at rallies, spouting off racist comments and otherwise behaving badly. (They have a website that gives the details of their plan--I can't remember the address right off hand.) He advised tea party leaders to lay down firm ground rules for their groups regarding how members are to behave, and trust me--racism won't be tolerated in most areas. The Tea Party is NOT about racism, and these groups are going to actively work to remove anyone who purports such.

Re: Ok, Now I Will Plea "Race"...
When I think about Obama and his policies, I never, ever think about his race. I don't care for Pelosi's actions, and she's a white woman, just like me.
I didn't care for Bill Clinton, either. Hey, I didn't like a lot of what George Bush did.
What does race have to do with anything?
