Remember Gore was leading in the polls right before the election as was Kerry. The Zogby poll, which has proven to be the most accurate the past few elections, had it at 4% this morning.
Carter was beating Ford by 31% in 1976 during the summer, the lead was cut to 11% by the fall and he ended up winning by 1% on election day. I've never known an election in which the Republican won that the polls had the GOP in the lead. It was either "too close to call" or the Dem was ahead.
Three weeks in politics is three lifetimes.
