The new RCP polls and electoral map are shaping up

as a landslide map for Obama. The latest polls even have Obama up in Florida and Missouri. The fact that we're even talking about Missouri 5 weeks away from the election is bad news for McCain. If McCain/Palin don't do something to stop the bleeding this is not only going to be a win for Obama, this is going to be a rout.

Is it time for the McCain team to bring out Michelle Obama's comments and Rev. Wright again? If they don't do something fast, it will be ugly for McCain on November 4th. This is a very important two week stretch and a huge amount of pressure on Sarah Palin to win the debate tonight. I'm not sure her just being "ok" is enough given the circumstances.

Re: The new RCP polls and electoral map are shapin

hmmm . . . you might be right. Something has changed in the last few weeks and I know folks who don't vote Democrat who are so angry with what they perceive as an economic meltdown that they are voting Obama. They blame Bush and the republicans.

Re: The new RCP polls and electoral map are shapin

The polls have never changed concerning McCain and the people's view on National Security. He's up and has been 74% to 24%.

You can look at the surface polls, the economic news and the phone polls where people are not going to say they are not voting for the "black man".

I see the National Security issue as the Number one factor. That is never going to change.

PO ... you are in serious denial ...

I heard an enraged Rush Limbaugh ... who is usually even-keeled in my book ... state that McCain is in very serious trouble here based on present polling data ...

He admitted this election will boil down to economics ...

He went on a tirade that unless McCain can ASSIGN BLAME on the Democratic perpatrators ... he is finished.

Politically .... this is a sound argument ... People are angry not about National Security .... but w/ the affect this financial crisis has on their livelihoods.

The default reason for this problem always falls on the party of the incumbent in question ... and unless the Straight Talk Express doesn't expose the corruption that Rush feels is solely on the laps of Democrats ... we will see a landslide.

Cooking with AP: Polls Radically Change Party Mix to Fabricate an Obama Trend

Of course we don't know if the differences between AP-CfK's Sept. 5-10 and Sept. 27-30 results were created deliberately, but the results sure look suspicious (both polls are available at PDF links found at AP-GfK's home page).

I honestlt think that as the initial emotion subsides, many are going to see Palin as a costly pick. My immediate reaction was that it was a tactical error.

Mike, the reality here is that Obama should win this election with 350 electoral votes at a minimum.

It has always been the democrats election to lose and with the current economic situation, even more so.

I have said all along that Barak Obama should win this thing, and the only chance for McCain to win is/was for McCain and Palin to distroy Obama/Biden in the debates. McCain wifffed in his first at bat. he has 2 left and honestly if he doesnt blow Obama out of the water in the second one its church.

For the first time in my memory (and I majored in history in college) the Vice Presidential debate is going to matter. Palin has to crush Biden. If she does, it gives McCain a chance. If she doesnt, It turns off the excitement she generated at the convention. period.

I will continue to try to get McCain elected. I will vote for McCain. I will continue to do my best to help that happen. But I am also under no illusions. This is all about not being discurraged and continuing to work for our guy and giving him another day to make something happen.

Ferd to use a Hockey analogy, Palin has to leave the goal open and go on offense. She can't afford to play it safe. They are down 1 with time about to expire playing defense is a losing game at this point.

We will find out tonight. Thus far she hasnt been good with the 2 gotcha interviewers.

But Stew, there was no good option for McCain. ALL of the short list people were either mainstreme conservitives that would have done nothing to excite anyone, or they were liberal opitons like Lieberman and Ridge that would have turned off conservitive voters.

The only other option would have been Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and he didnt want any part of this deal.

McCain did what he needed to do. He thru a bomb. The deal here is that Palin has to catch that ball.... she hasnt yet but she has one more chance tonight. fail here and its over.

but it wasnt a mistake. a mistake would have been to pass up a better option, there werent any.
