Drive By Posting
As I mentioned here I'm still on my break from AFF but I haven't been able to get much researching done yet because work moved into overdrive at the same time. I just so happened to have a few extra minutes today to stop by. So this is just a note to let you all know that I'm still alive and well, I've just been super busy.
Anyway, one aspect of my personal research is trying to figure out is why people choose to be ignorant. When people are faced with the facts, know where/how to find out the facts but by choice turn their backs and walk away from the facts, not wanting to face the truth. I see people doing this everyday in every aspect of life. We see it in the spiritual matters, we see it in the physical, we see it in the mental, etc.,etc. Why is it that man hates the facts, facts that would significantly improve their lives if they would just look at them and apply them to their lives. Why does he choose to be ignorant? Why be so intentional about not knowing truth? Why be intentionally ignorant?
Daniel

Re: Drive By Posting
You appear to think that the 'facts' are neutral. There is no such position as neutrality. The facts don't interpret themselves.

Maybe because if they faced the facts they would have to do something. For instance if you faced the fact that you had to repent and be baptized in Jesus name and receive the Holy Ghost then you would have to do something. But as long as you can ignore it then you feel like you are ok. Sometimes people just don't want to make a move so they refuse to face the facts.

Re: Drive By Posting
If I spent much time dwelling on why people do ignorant things in this life I too would have to witdhraw from AFF and pretty all other aspects of life it would be so overwhelming!
A few years ago VH1 used to have a documentary series called "Behind the Muisic" about famous secular musical groups / artists.
I noticed after watching the fourth or fifth one that almost all of those secular groups followed the same pattern;
1. Fame / Success / Weatlh
2. Drugs / Alcohol / Women / Partying / Bad investments and or money management
3. Bankruptcy / Broke / Rehab / Drugs / Reha / Drugs / Rehab /
You would think that new groups / singers coming along would look at those before them and know not to repeat those same mistakes but they don't.
Just like the women who marry lazy sorry men who don't have or keep jobs, etc and think that they can "save" them or change them. You would think there is enough anecdotal evidence out there for them to see that virtually never happens.
Same with the notion some young teen girls get that what they need is a baby to love or with young women with marital problems and a husband not doing right who think that somehow a screaming baby to look after is going to make their husband love them and straigthen up.
Ditto the kids of alcholic parents who see the terrible results of that on the family yet follow in the same footsteps and perpetuate the misery.
Bottom line is that many human beings choose to not take a stand against their fallen nature within themselves or seek the help of God.

Titus2woman on AFF
"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Drive By Posting
Because ignorance is bliss. If you plead ignorance, then you can rationalize not having to take any responsibilty.
I think some people want to stay "ignorant" because they sincerely do not have self confidence, and do not want to be made fun of if they really do try to learn, and or utilize what they learn, and they just can't make it work like other people can. Pride. With which we all struggle with in different aspects.
My 2 cents.

Re: Drive By Posting
It is just much easier to stay ignorant than to change. God help me not to be like that!!

But only for the ignorant. The rest of us have to deal with them.
