Film legend Charlton Heston dead at 84

Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.

The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, family spokesman Bill Powers said.

Powers declined to comment on the cause of death or provide further details.

I just saw that headline. I believe he had been suffering from Alzheimers for several years now.

I really liked him and thought he did a great job as head of the NRA at a time when gun ownership was under attack.

I had such a crush on him.
I enjoyed The Ten Comandments, watched it a million times growing up... no exaggeration.

Me Too! He was a "manly man"! I'm sad now! Think this afternoon I'll sit down with Judah Ben-Hur for a while!

I remember Lee Stoneking used to talk about his burden for him to be saved.

yes, Brother Stoneking I think wittnessed to some actors and even prayed with them if I remember right.
He was probably one of the best actors of his day.

One of my favorite actors of All-Time.

The weird thing.

I just asked my wife on Saturday.

Is Charlton Heston still alive.

Then we hear first thing this morning he is gone.

We did not hear anything on TV on Saturday.

Just one of those weird things that happened.

Re: Film legend Charlton Heston dead at 84

It is a sad day when all the good ones start dying off. One of the first movies I ever watched on TV was Ben Hur. Then I watched Planet of the Apes all because CH was in the lead role. I think at this point I have watched almost all the movies he was in. He was a dynamic presence on screen. I remember him sparing with politicians over the NRA and gun rights. I loved his comments to Clinton back several years ago.
He was not afraid to speak out for what he believed was right or wrong.
I know what we believe and I also know that none of us know for sure. So with that said..
May God have mercy on his soul and grant him eteranal rest.

Wow...thats alot of movie watchin. Had I watched a movie 1,000,000 times, I would have had to watch that movie about 54 times a day, everyday of my life. No way could I watch the same movie 54 times a day, every day! Now...The Andy Griffith Show? Yeah, I could watch Andy and Barney 54 times a day.
