Sisters...
Just watched a segment on The Today Show about sisters...this is a subject I know little of.
Though I have three friends whom I couldn't love more if they were blood, my siblings are brothers...seven of them, and all younger.
So I am wondering if you'd care to comment for us about having sisters...the 'experts' said that the oldest sister tends to be the smartest, the middle is usually the social one, and the youngest is the overlooked one.
'They' said that most parents tend to allow younger sisters to work out disagreements, but that this is not the best way to deal with things. The better way is to show them how to handle situtions, as they are too young to know the better way.
What think ye who have sisters?!

Re: Sisters...
I have six sisters, counting me would make seven girls.
All of us are smart, we are all social and no one has been overlooked.
My brother is the last child - number 8. He is also intelligent, social and spoiled rotten.

Re: Sisters...
I am the baby of the family with 5 siblings. 3 of them girls. I made sure I was not overlooked.

Re: Sisters...
Well, the so-called experts were giving their opinions of course...
Re the youngest and being overlooked, I should have elaborated, but was feeling queasy and had to lay down for a minute.
They said that though the youngest receives attention at first, the older sisters tend to not give much attention to their opinions and thus tend to be overlooked.
As I said, I don't have sisters, so I am interested in your comments on this...I think it is interesting.

Re: Sisters...
Sis. Barb,
I am the blessed one! Having not only three sisters but seven brothers. Out of eleven
siblings, I was the oldest sister. Have one older brother by fourteen months.
Now back to the subject of sisters! We four sisters took our mother on a "mother and
sisters" weekend trip a year or two before she passed away. How glad we are that we
have those memories. We had a wonderful time together, and have pictures to prove it.
Since then we have had several "Sisters Trips", usually planned on a weekend and go
somewhere not too far away but somewhere where we have not all been. We laugh and
talk and stay up late that first night, play a game, snack and reminience. We have a
wonderful time together. Sometimes we have purchased a small gift for each other and
at other times we buy each other a small gift while on the trip as a sovernier of our trip.
We tell a lot of people on our trip, in places where we eat, shop and stay, that we are
four sisters on our annual or semi-annual "Sisters Trip". Some say they are going to start
planning a "Sisters Trip" with their sister or sisters. Never too late too start. WE are ages
68, 65, 57, and 50. You would think we are all about the same age because there is no
age gap between we "four sisters". We love and appreciate and are thankful to be united
in sisterhood! God united us in "sisterhood" but we do the loving, aappreciating and the
thankfulness for putting (uniting) us together in our family. Our "Sisters Trip"
is a "big deal" to us. We make it a "big deal" because it is very important for
us to stay close and make time to be together!
We love, appreciate and are SO thankful for our brothers also. Six are still here in Texas
with us. One has gone into another country until that "Glad Reunion Day". He and our
beloved parents await us there, along with many other loved ones.
Blessings,
Falla39

Re: Sisters...
I have three older sisters and a baby brother.
I love my sisters dearly... we are all strong women...none of us are compliant women... all stubborn streaks. I think we are creative and talented in some way...either w/music, singing or art... I think we are all smart.... all have strong points.
Oldest sister/child was/is a little self centered... life is all about her... but she is very persuasive.. very bold personality. Definitely a leader, not a follower... but I wouldn't consider her to be the most intelligent... but very quick witted... can out talk anyone and should have been an attorney or something.
Second sister was shy when little, but grew to be very confident and outgoing .. has many friends... very nuturing.. was a second mom to my brother and I. A caregiver.. took care of my father putting a hold on her career in politics to put his care first.. totally devoted her life to the ministry/music of my father's ministry/church and has never married...by choice... turned around and devoted 6 years to caring for my mom.
Third sister considers herself to be the most intelligent… I guess we would all concede she is…graduated with honors.. but she is the absent minded professor smart… I think I have much more common sense.. lol She’s an artist that marches to the beat of her own drum..is college educated, career in finance, independent, and has many friends…has many friends that aren’t shared w/the rest of us…always thought she was very independent from family. Although in her late 40s and not married, she decides she will be a mom and adopts a son from Russia.
I was the baby girl born 9.5 years after the three sisters above… and was flat out spoiled rotten by my dad…and family. I don’t think I was overlooked…lol I grew up feeling loved by most everyone… hard knocks of life made me grow up.
I have a brother 5 years younger…

Now as the youngest... I can see what you mean by that now..... I just set out to prove w/my life that I was competent.. I always felt I've not grown up. I was very happy to be 40...and I have reminded lots of people... "I am 40" as if I am reminding myself and others I can think for myself now.. LOL

As I said, all of the posts re this subject are most informative...
Though I love my brothers dearly, and you know most of them, FB, I had always wished for sisters.
I am grateful that at this stage in my life I finally have them in my three friends.
