Pollster Scott Rasmussen of RasmussenReports.com has an interesting breakdown of the where the Democratic candidates are getting their sources of support.
Black: Obama 81% Clinton 7%
White: Clinton 50% Obama 39%
Women: Clinton 51% Obama 40%
Men: Obama 60% Clinton 28%
I found those numbers kind of striking.
We've all kinda known that race and gender were always a part of the voting process, but I've never seen it as distinct as this before. Indeed, race and /or gender could well be a major deciding factor in who our next president will be.
It would be nice to think that people would vote primarily on the issues. But, in the real world, maybe its kinda naive to think that way.
(It does make me wonder how much of a factor it will be if Obama ends up facing McCain.)

I must say that with the top 3 we now have (Clinton, Obama, McCain) I'm appalled that this is the best we can come up with, out of a country of 300+ million people.

I agree- I do not know if the reason we cannot attract quality people to politics is because the media has become so intrusive or public service just does not attract quality people anymore.

TR, you hit on the real issue here. Issues arent being the issue, because there are no issues this time around. the only thing people are being given to make a decision on is personality/sex/gender or what ever identification we can grasp.
the dems have been chanting "change" without talking about anything more detiailed than that.
the republicans have tried to out Reagan each other. I love Uncle Ronnie. He is a personal hero, and as a student of history I view him as the most signicant presidnet of the second half of the twenth century. He will have Jacksonian impact.
but Uncle Ronnie is dead.
we have nickels, dimes and a dead guy to decide this election over. Not good.
