Re: Has It Really Gotten This Bad?
That's soooo true. My girlfriend (a single mom at the time-not her fault-) raising a "highly energetic" 10 yr old boy gave him a whoopin with a belt after he was disrespectful and hurt his little sister. She got turned into children services and had to sign papers that -AND GET THIS - CAPITAL PUNISHMET IS NOT ALLOWED
oh my....and look at the children today. And Parents wonder........

Re: Has It Really Gotten This Bad?
Yes - it has gotten that bad.
A few weeks ago I watched in the lobby of our church as a lady tried to correct a young boy (about 6 yrs old). She was NOT spanking him or disciplining him. Only talking to him in an effort to get him to calm down and be quiet in church. She merely put her fingers over his lips telling him to "ssh, be quiet" and he started yelling, "you're kiiling me" and "the courts won't let you do that." So sad. ..... A six year old knowing about the "courts" and what they allow. As it turned out, this was a divorce situation and the father was fighting the mother for full custody. So you can only imagine what garbage had been pumped into this child. And the sad part of it is, because "the courts" won't allow proper discipline (he needed a little of the "board of education applied to the seat of understanding")- someday, those same "courts" will most likely determine his discipline (if any) for some crime he commits.
So sad............

Re: Has It Really Gotten This Bad?
In the 80's (I THINK) when the child abuse hotline was just becoming "popular" a friend told his daughter to take out the trash. She was 14 at the time and developing the "I'm too big for my britches" syndrome. She told him she was going to call the hotline because he couldn't MAKE her do that. He used "corporal punishment" on her and then handed her the telephone and I quote.
"Fine, call the hotline and then pack your clothes. This is MY house and if you aren't going to follow the rules....you aren't going to live here"
She didn't call.
