High-level Upci Official Weighs In On Res. #4 Aftermath
The following email was sent to UPC Home Missionaries today:
November 28, 2007
Dear Home Missionary:
Greetings to each of you. It would be wonderful if time permitted a bit of personal contact with all 412 Home Missionary couples. I’ve enjoyed each Home Missionary church I’ve been in this year. You are doing a great work.
Many of you were unable to attend this year’s General Conference. We missed you being in our Friday afternoon service for Home Missionaries. Home Missionary Tim Gaddy did an excellent job speaking a word of encouragement to us. Each conference service was tremendously blessed of God!
As you will have heard, the body of eligible voters at General Conference 2007made a decision to allow the use of television for advertising. The decision does not affect the UPCI’s stand on the dangers of television. The action of the General Conference reverts the United Pentecostal Church International to terminology that existed prior to 1976.
The decision to allow this medium of advertising was approved by a close decision. Many were disappointed with the outcome. It is important to be mindful that this decision was not made by a few people cloistered in a boardroom. This process was open and the journey to it has been long and arduous.
· Even before we arrived in Tampa, the matter was thoroughly discussed.
· During the months prior to conference, letters and other forms of communication presented various perspectives.
· A survey was taken and input was sought from every licensed minister of the United Pentecostal Church.
· During the business session discussion – both in opposition to and in favor of the use of television for advertising was presented.
· Amendments were offered and defeated.
Overall, things were handled in a manner that was mature and Christ-like. I’m “sanctified proud” of the fellowship of the United Pentecostal Church. I’m glad to have you as my brothers and sisters!
Since General Conference there has been ongoing dialogue. A number of men felt strongly enough about the issue to turn in their license. As of mid-November, thirteen individual’s credentials had been received at World Evangelism Center. It is with regret that we see these men leave our fellowship. However, I respect their integrity and conviction. These men are not my enemies–nor will they become such. These men have decided to make a specific choice. My prayer is God’s best for them and their work.
As of November 26, 2007, I am aware of one of our 412 Home Missionaries who has expressed the intent to withdraw from the United Pentecostal Church. The man is a veteran church planter. His work in partnership with this fellowship will be missed. I have full confidence that he will continue on a path toward establishing another church. This is my desire.
It is important to not minimize something that many feel strongly about. It is also important that we stay mindful that “the foundation of God standeth sure.” Time and eternity will reveal if we made the right decision in Tampa. Regardless, God’s church will survive and thrive.
As Paul’s second letter to Timothy was being written Hymenaeus and Philetus fell into error concerning the resurrection from the dead. Their mistake created quite a stir. Paul’s word of assurance to the young preacher Timothy was, “nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure.” That word of confidence is something to stand on today.
You are part of a district; my communication to you is because your work is also connected with that of the General Home Missions Division. In complex times, we need each other. If you need someone to talk to, or to express your concern or frustration to, please email me at ******* or phone me at ***-***-**** (Extension ***). You are the reason I’m in this role, and it is my desire to serve you.
In Christ,
Carlton L. Coon Sr.
General Director
Home Missions Division
United Pentecostal Church International.

The apparatchik and damage control are out in full force, now ... We are to assume only 13 have left ... If you read it carefully it says 13 credentials have been sent into the WEC ... but this is not the total number of resignations. Astutely worded.
The response dictates concern.

I think that has been made pretty clear. Many just aren't renewing their credentials.

No, if the cards were turned into a District, they will not appear on Radar until the next quarter's dues.
This is the division spamming me for over 6 months to "view the webcast."

A pretty good letter I think.
It occurs to me that the central issue is tolerance of beliefs.
If one is against TV advertising that is one thing, but if one cannot tolerate others with a bit of a different perspective, well, he limits himself in fellowship and will likely find other issues, in other groups, to narrow his path even more.
The UPC needs a baptism of tolerance and humility IMHO.
