Priscilla's fame extends even beyond the biblical record, for one of the oldest catacombs in Rome was named in her honor. Her name appears on many monuments of Rome and we read in Tertullian, "by the holy Prisca the gospel is preached." Examining carefully I think Priscilla was a early missionary.

We would do well in our age to learn from the gentle women of the early Christian Church and return to apostilic methods...men and women going everywhere preaching the gospel.

My nephew told me he visited one catacomb in Rome that was 4 stories under ground..dug out by the hands of christians where there were 150 thousand tombs for burying the dead...Imagine right under the nose of Rome thousands of christians men and women preaching the gospel...no wonder the church grew...

The luminous beauty of a third century fresco in the Priscilla catacombs shows a woman being vested in priestly garb. Another portrays women celebrating an early eucharist. At the Petrus and Marcellinus catacombs, vibrant and rarely seen frescos give silent, compelling testimony to gender balanced leadership in early funerary rituals. (copied)

Almost all history books give us the same story...Since we were not there we can only imagine how it must have been...

Christians refused to engage in emperor worship, and persecutions ensued. In the persecutions so many Christians bore witness (Greek: martyria) that the word martyr quickly evolved into its current meaning. Young women such as Blandina, Perpetua, and Felicity—and others we read about so willingly died for the christian faith...

I don't think these precious women were hiding in a corner knitting or on the streets selling peanut brittle...

God needs strong women in this hour we are living in...I don't mean manly women there happens to be a difference.

Sister Alvear....just a little sidenote...I would never advise a woman to pursue ministry instead of nursing her baby. As a mother, my primary role from God is to nurture and care for my child, and that is number one, especially when the child is small! Breastfeeding is something women should be encouraged to do, and obviously it doesn't matter now since your children are probably grown, but I think that it would be wrong to choose to bottle feed a baby just to be more helpful to the church! JMHO

Breastmilk is perfect for babies...God made it that way...and I would hope no mother would ever be encouraged to do otherwise, just to be more available to the church. God is the one who gives life, and if that life is given to me, then I think He wants my primary objective to be to care for that life.

I'm sorry if this comes across as a bit critical...not really meaning to be...I'm just a bit shocked that any woman would choose to bottle feed in order to serve the church.

But if you remember Sis. A is from the era that the ministry put the church before their families. Many lost their families because of that. I would never fault anyone's sacrifice to God. But I do think we have learned from mistakes made.

Not faulting your comments as they are applicable.
