Esther,

It looks like several have answered your question about the barking, but yes, it has been a part of some's "worship" as well as laughing and jerking.

A group from our church took a bus load to Brownsville and they all came back jerking in church. It was the weirdest thing I had ever seen and very, uncomfortable to be around. The first Sunday they were back we were sitting on the second row (see I use to be a really good saint), and the lady in front of me was jerking. I felt so sorry for her because I thought she had a neurological disorder - I hadn't noticed it before, so it was very odd.

Well, the next Sunday we were sitting further back and saw more doing it - - we inquired what the deal was and that's when they told of the experience in Brownsville.

Why? What on God's green earth did that have to do with worshipping God. Needless to say, we didn't stay much longer in that church.

I have read that in the outpouring in the I think the 50's could have been earlier, that the jerking was a common occurance. But from what I read it was spirit led and not taught.

I totally agree with you. I have a BA degree but there have been jobs that I had were I thought why do you need a degree for this when you have to do the job to learn it!

I agree.

However, I think doctors, lawyers, cpa's are an exception. They need specialized training.

But there are jobs that require a college degree that I think, if I had a college degree it wouldn't be working this job.

WOW! That is a prehistoric concept in the world of feminism, equal rights, ACLU, Gloria Stinem (SP), and federal anti-discrimination laws in the works place.

Has nothing to do with the 'good ole boys club.'

Sure it does, but that is not limited to "men" only. There are women in the club as well.

I think I am digressing here. I guess my point -with regards to this post- is that people in our movement would not be so off the wall if our leaders had more education. That does not mean that God can't use a man without an education.

However, the church is an institution established to help the lost and hurting. We would do better as a movement if our men would not be so 'loose cannoned' and showed a little restraint when it comes to their behavior and the behavior they condon in the name of truth and worship in the church house.

Some of the young men I see today that are aspiring to be ministers in UPC are just so ill-mannered and most of them did not even finish high school. My children will have to make their living, my children will have to listen to their untamed mouths and rude commments. Shame! Thats not God's will.

Garbage men in NYC can easily make 60k a year ... especially when they do overtime during the snow season.

NO excuse for that.

Although my BIL's grandfather wanted to take his children out of school because he believed the Lord was fixing to come back. His wife said "the Bible says occupy until" so she sent them to school. That was nearly a hundred years ago.
