One thing is without dispute. Landy is one of the friendliest and unpretentious human beings I have ever met.
Of the 1970's era big time PK's he was the only one I knew who I met that was genuine, down to earth, and not caught up in the social strata of the UPC at the time.
If I saw him today I am sure he would call me by name and be as warm and friendly as he has ever been. Over the last 30 years he has always been the same everytime I have ever been around him.
I completely agree. I dont have a single negative thing to say. Landy was a friend to me when he didnt have to be.
that guy can out golf every one I know too!

This is a very astute observation. I agree with it all.
I have dreamed of a Oneness Broadcasting Network for quite a long time. After all, both CBN and TBN started on a shoestring with little more than a 100 watt transmitter and a shoe box for a camera. I believe someone is going to catch the vision for an OBN and run with it sooner or later.
The preachers and musicians who know who Jesus is has the greater anointing. The world is hungry for it. The danger that I see is the A. A. Allen syndrome. In the beginning he was a very humble man dedicated to much prayer and fasting. Later, he and his performing team became transformed into STARS beneath the bright lights of the camera. Millions watched him weekly on his "Miracle Revival Telecast."
So the question is, can good men with the right message resist the seduction tendency to resist the Allen star syndrome? If so, the world awaits with open arms with the money and acceptance. But, is that really what we want?
I heard of this group forming back in 2003 and they are now on the air 24/7 on several satellite stations around the world, they just don't have much of a US presence yet. Apostolic Oneness Network. here is their url. http://www.aontv.com/page/page/4519012.htm
Man, there is a lot I could say about this situation.
If you were to start a thread about it, I might have a few things to say. Mark was probably one of the most gifted preacher among us during his best years.
When he needed his brethren, where were they? This is probably one of the saddest stories that I know of in modern Pentecost.
Yes, he most definitely was. And yes it most certainly is. It is not my intent to try to lay the blame for Mark's demise on the org, yet the issue faces the UPC again with the possible lost of some of its mightiest again being the cost. I am not overly optimistic about the success of the use of TV, not a fan of most popular Christian broadcasting, but one thing is for sure if a more mature approach is not embraced, the cost could be again catastrophic.
The potential of mass media is phenomenal, can it be used to glorify God rather than the creation of celebrity preachers? There are a few that handle it well, Jack Hayford being among the few.

I have always believed that no one can blame anyone else for their choices in life. MH and KP left the org of their own choice, right? This was basically over tv??
So why did they not team up years ago with the ALJC, who still hold doctrine, and allow tv? I am confused. We sometimes act like the UPCI is the only choice out there. If I cannot live with the UPC, there are some other options, whether it is more conservative, or more liberal.
MH has no one but MH to blame for his choices. He destroyed himself when he separated himself from his fellowship, and did not reconnect with another fellowship.

I generally agree with what you are saying, however I believe the issue has been mishandled. The mass media as well as the internet is here and is prevasively in our culture, it has many positive usages as well as the negatives. As result the UPC faces the issue again with many more lining up to embrace the use of TV. I believe it could be best defused by approval of a resolution to allow individual churches to decide to use TV or not.

you could be right. I truly think that Internet snuck up on the UPC, or they would have tried to cut it off too. Or at least regulated it more.
I personally do not think tv advertising is going to be effective. If we ain't already reaching our community, and the services being noised abroad in the community, then we have deeper issues that need to be addressed. Any church that displays the nature, power, and Love of Jesus Christ will be known in the community already, and will not need to advertise on tv.
And as someone above stated, most denominations do not use tv simply to advertise their services. They use it for broadcasting the service itself.

The most effective use might be more of a national type advertising, produced by a professional ad agency to communicate a overall theme. By having a more generic appearance it could benefit every community that has a UPC church. There could even be a national fund to help fund the ads, this would be more effective than hodgepodge with no uniformity, and would be more affordable. Of course, ultimately the success depends on the local church being a place folks can go and become a member of the Body of Christ. O well, we can dream.

So we ask headquarters to control even more. I guess they would just levy another tax on the peasants to raise the funds for this.
I still believe that if we have the goods God will add to the church such as should be saved. The problem is not a lack of advertising. It is a lack of product.

Well then, that is another subject altogether. Sounds like a bunch of folks need to get saved and be reconciled to God.
