Re: Changing To Preterism from Rapture Doctrine

The issue that I always point people toward when I explain how I saw this viewpoint is the note about how it puts the worst judgment to ever occur under the canopy of the immediate years following the cross. One generation away. 40 years. AD70 took place within a generation's span of time after the cross.

The worst tribulation occurred then because the crime of the cross was the worst crime. The punishment fits the crime. For there to be greater tribulation in our future is for there to be something worse than the Lord's own people, his bride Jerusalem (Ezekiel 16), crucifying Him, and adulterating with Rome's Caesar as her king instead and crying out Caesar's name at the cross!

And stats show that the amount of people in the world at that time compared to any atrocity in history since then gives the greater percentage per capita of tribulation on earth in AD70.

And this makes prophecy and the doom and gloom of judgment focus on the cross more than any other view.

My sentiments exactly Mike. What greater sin could the world commit to bring the greatest judgment and tribulation, than that.

I can agree with some of partial preterism. Do you believe that there will some kind endtime tribulation to come before the resurrection?

No, we believe it will be a time of peace. The world actually ended already right after the Roman army took control of Jerusalem. The devil is bound and we will eventually take over this whole earth and it'll be a wonderful Merriland. Man if you guys would fly me to the states. I'll preach all your conferences blindfolded if you don't mind me were wearing flip-flops.

I was looking for a serious answer, but if you believe that we are living in the thousand years mentioned in Revelation then Satan will be released again before the judgement. Someone please give a serious thought.

How is that? I have believed that the 'great tribulation such as never was nor shall be' was fulfilled in the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70, and yet I am not preterist. Many others who hold to the historicist view also believe the same thing about the 'great tribulation'. I do believe Phillip Mauro, in his work on the Olivet Prophecy, makes exactly that case, that the crime of crucifying Christ was the worst crime possible, and the destruction of Jerusalem was the worst tribulation possible because it involved the wholesale destruction and repudiation of the TEMPLE and the priesthood and the final overthrow of the old covenant. It was the 'greatest' not because of the physical scope of suffering (although it might be argued that the destruction was in fact the worst any individual city had experienced, per capita). Rather, it was greatest because of the spiritual significance of what was occurring.

And yet neither he nor I nor any other historicist who understands these things are preterists? So I do not see how THIS point is something that makes preterism unique or better than other interpretative systems?

They(preterists) will only give you some serious imagination.
