Re: Changes within UPC (recent)

The root of the error about resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment is the false belief that man has an immortal soul.

Re: Changes within UPC (recent)

If eternal torment is the wages of sin Jesus did not take your punishment for you. Why did God raise Jesus from the dead after 3 days?

To take punishment for our sins he would have had to have been tormented in Hell! Do YOU believe Jesus was tormented in Hell? If not how did he suffer for our sins?

Why if mans punishment is to burn for trillions of years did God punish Jesus for only 3 days?

But if mans punishment is DEATH then it makes much more sense. He could be just in resurrecting Jesus after 3 days.

Always has puzzled me how someone find justification in the Bible for saying that Jesus suffered for man's sins, that is, "the sins of all mankind was placed upon Him at Calvary." That's sheer nonsense, and does a tremendous injustice to His righteousness!

Christ, the man, the Lamb of God, shed His pure, sinless life's blood at Calvary so that sinful man might have a sacrifice for their own sins, for that is what God demanded as the ONLY sacrifice which He would accept! That does NOT mean, infer, or imply that Christ Jesus somehow was "burdened" with the sins of all humanity!

The shed blood of our Saviour is what the Father accepts as our sacrifice which prevents us from experiencing eternal punishment in the lake of fire.

Re: Changes within UPC (recent)

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, told the elders at Ephesus that "the church of God (was) purchased with His own blood," and NOT by, because of, or with His suffering. Therefore, in a manner of speaking, it was not about His suffering, but about man's need for a sacrifice that would be acceptable to God, although suffering was a consequence of His shedding of blood for our sake.

Admittedly Christ suffered because of man's sins, for if there were no sin then His death would not have been required, for there would have been no need. Its all about His blood!

Matthew 23:23King James Version (KJV)

23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Sue, Jesus is addressing here those that are under the law. Also notice what they are tithing--food items. They are being scolded for their hypocrisy.

The Body of Christ is not under the Mosaic law.

If it is God's will for your illness then why are you seeking medical attention to get rid of it?

I tithed and gave an offering this morning. I was so happy to fulfill my commitment to God and His church.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

So, how much if any, did you give to the work of God or did you fill your belly at Burger King?

Php 3:19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
