To the historically ignorant perhaps. It's an ancient term used that is used to describe what is essentially the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
Here's a Catholic link: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05277a.htm

the words in the bible paint a more calm Picture of people being in a trance while God deliveres to them a Vision
also the word astonishment, and amazment could be linked back to ekstasis
I dont see any ekstasis listed with the Holy ghost in the same verse.
trying to link it to some euphoric moment in the Holy ghost i havent really found any scripture stating such a thing, except the possibility of where Paul went to the the third heaven. However no such link is found with tongues
i canot find any ekstasis link with glossalalia

Re: Ex-Apostolic Friends Forum?
Haven't figured out yet why we try to understand Christ,
the King of the Jews, thru Greek, lol.
Guaranteed to confuse.
David dancing comes to mind, OT.
NT, I think they all got gripped trying to explain Christ in Greek.
They over-thought everything, defined to a ridiculous degree,
and when you do that with Spirit you end up with a corpse.

Yet is it not the Spirit that moved upon those who experienced a trance?

You've never heard of glossalalia being refered to as "ecstatic utterances"?

yes i have heard that but..
just because it is reffered to as such doesnt mean it is such. Again there is no ekstasis found with glossalalia in scripture.
let me explain why i with draw from the term. The word ecstacy in todays term means a euphoric high based on a drug that causes you to feel immense pleasure because of the reaction of the drug in your body.
second it also is sexual pleasures.
Now what if i say Abraham the father of many Nations is gay. which i can proove from scriptures. People will read this and think that i am some idiot, lost my mind and maybe even demon possed for making such a remark.
However that does not change the fact that it is absolutly true. Cause the word gay means to be glad to be happy. and Jesus said that Abraham saw His day and was glad.
Do you see what i am getting at? The word gay has evolved over the last 50 years from being glad or happy to being a Homosexual. so due to the evolution of the word i withdraw from such use of it.
hope that makes sence
can you also define glossalalia for me just a brief definition would be fine thanks in advance

I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Re: Ex-Apostolic Friends Forum?
Good question Cindy. I can be friends with Apostolics, if they will let me and with ex-Apostolics.
I can be friends with Baptists, Catholics, Hindus and Muslims.
My faith in what Christ's shed blood has done for me is not so weak that I can be persuaded by somebody else's belief.
