After my previous relationship experiences it was actually pretty blissful.
Not to say that any of that has changed, but my life is getting ready to start shifting dramatically and I have some big plans for my future. At this point, a relationship would really complicate that.
Here is the rub; I have two questions, and they are sincere, because I really don't know.
#1: is it possible for a (single) man and woman to be "just friends?"
#2: Is it crazy to contemplate a relationship that I have no intention of letting become long term or permanent?
I am driving myself crazy, and I have no one to bounce this stuff off of, because everyone I know (in real life) would freak out to even hear me discuss it...

#1 I have male friends who are just friends, but then, I'm married and so are they and our spouses are friends too, AND there is absolutely zero attraction. I think it would be very difficult for two single people to be friends without it becoming something more.
#2 I don't think it's wrong, but you have to consider that while you're 'just having fun' with someone you only care about in a friendly, fun way, someone that has the potential for you to really love might be scared away by you appearing to be "in a relationship". Just a thought.

It's those "stale" messages that don't get no giggles!

Re: And now for something completely different...
Responding to the original post:
I don't know how to say this without offending - it's not coming out right in my head, but take this in the spirit it's intended.
As a son with a mother in your situation, but less sure of herself...
It's much easier if you decide before you get into this type of situation what you are going to do and just stick to it, at least for the kids.
We are trying to start our lives, and IDEALLY (and whose life is ideal anymore?) this would not be an issue at that point. In a perfect world, grandparents would visit together, kids in their 20's wouldn't be worried about going to their parents' weddings, if they were getting taken advantage of financially and otherwise, etc etc.
This is coming from a guy who is seeing his mother waste that last 10 years of her life on guy after guy, just HOPING he's interested, mooning, being a "good friend" but always hoping for more, but never getting it. I just wish a decision could be made to be single or to be looking, but not this in-between stuff.
I know this is very one-sided, and everyone deserves the right to be happy. So just take it for what it is...one-sided
And good luck either way.

I actually caught it within fractions of a second of reading the thread title for the first time, but thought it was so obvious that it didn't need mentioning.....
