Re: This Is Why We Get a Bad Rap!!
The lady accused here has a public blog.
I.o.w. she wants people to read it, otherwise she would not have it out in the open on the internet.
I see no harm in posting the link. Without the link this is (I say it again) useless gossip.
Without proof this is idle words.

Vulgarity isn't a reflection of past or present church membership - it's a heart and a head problem.
This psycho-babble about strict upbringing and newfound liberty is silly.

Thank you! Not being raised in the UPC, I find the statement to be outrageously silly! Because I know when you are carnal........there is no other explanation or excuse needed! I know when I'm being carnal and I don't blame that on anyone or anything except for myself!

Well, pel?
That's fun to say, btw.
Anybody want a peanut? (Only the wise will understand.)

Thankfully the cursing preacher's wife is not representative of people that have left the UPC, and you are not representative of the vast number of wonderful people who are UPC.

When you're wrong, repeating yourself doesn't serve any purpose at all.
I haven't got an infraction for awhile now, so here goes: Your post is ignorant, dim-witted, and offensive.
When a credible person makes a statement, their word alone is enough to substantiate their comment. Sherri is completely credible.

I have no problem at all with you disagreeing with my point. But I do object to you words where you imply that I (along with DG) said things that I did not.
Once again I quote your words

So, Pastor Sherri, I think DG's and Michlows posts help contribute to the Bad Rap theory, no?

Once again, I am asking that you correct your post and apologize for implying that I said things that I did not.
Normally, I would just let this go. But I have gotten accused in the past (and it may have then been true) for being a UPC basher, a hater, a bitter ex-upc'er, etc. And I have been very careful to avoid such things in the present.

LOL!!!! Okay, surprisingly, I'm going to agree with you on this finer point. Although I do believe we should try to keep our mouths clean for the sake of our own consciences, it is true that much of what is offensive is determined by who is in the room. (Same with modesty--obviously God isn't offended by nudity, in and of itself.)
I do believe that taking God's name in vain is disrespectful to Him, and since He can always hear, then I don't suppose there's ever a "safe" time for that.

I'd agree with you... if DG had used the bold and enlarged font that you did... but he was more serene. Or at least appeared to be more serene.
And I agree with his opinion of "works based churches", as long as it wasn't shouted. It's an important consideration. Since the blog in question is still anonymous, we can only speak to the generalities and speculate to some degree.

I didn't think Sherri was backbiting, but I do agree that it is gossip. There is no way to deny that. Gossip is always repeating a story, conversation, etc. that tarnishes a person's reputation or reflects negatively toward another person - whether they've done that to themselves or not - it's still gossip if we repeat that in a conversation.
Having said that, I do see why she started the thread. Some time back I made an observation - "Looking around in the locations that I have lived, I didn't see anyone setting a better example than what we have or have had." I was labeled as making a "stereotypical" remark.
But, Sherri's post confirms that it was not a stereotypical remark on my part. We do actually look around and see the examples that she referenced on this thread.
That does affect her. I can see that. It affects us, also, when someone in the organization makes grievous mistakes of one sort or the other.
We are all affected in one way or another.
My angst on the subject is the broadbrush toward a conservative group of people when I KNOW people that are not in the UPC or other conservative movements having their own mistakes being made.
