I am out of here.
Going to make sausage gravy and biscuits for the wife and boys. That is going to be our Sunday breakfast. Haven't had any in a while so I'm really looking forward to it.

Good thing you don't have a church in Fort Lauderdale, during the summer. You would be fitting in with the culture down here. Flip flops, cut off jean shorts that would make the coolats you are wearing in your avatar look ultra conservative. Anyway, would you preach in a t-shirt and shorts on a Sunday morning?
|
EB, I preach in my T-shirt and shorts EVERY Sunday!
You mean, you don't?
How ungodly can that be?

I think Mark has a valid point if the majority of folks saw a man with facial hair they would not think he was an conservative Apostolic preacher.

Two questions -
1.) Define most folks?
I would venture to say that most sinners would never associate facial hair with liberalism.
2.) Who made this rule?
There's no Bible for it, and nothing in the UPC manual. Who determines this?

I understand, and appreciate your honesty, Elder.
My point is this - somewhere along the line, the ban on facial hair became paramount with holiness to some, but they really don't know why. I will challenge anyone, including myself, to know what they believe and why they believe it, and that's what I was doing with Mark last night.
Unfortunately, there are "standards" that may have been set for a season in time that become "doctrine".

It is simple facial hair in the 60's & 70's identiifed the hippies-free-love-drugs-anti-establishment. The ministry made a stand. Does it have the EXACT same identifications today? I don't think so. However why the change now? Is it being advocated by holiness minded men or men who are toying with other ideas? The men I have personally known who advocated beards one of the a close personal friend also abandoned other convictions and some of them were definitely Biblical. Fight for the pea patch the next thing will be the barn then the house.
