I was wrong. I thought it would be defeated.

I was wrong because I guessed in error -and besides I was in the kitchen making peanut brittle, so what do I know?

This, my friends, is REAL progress!

Why I was wrong?

I was wrong because I could not summon enough faith to believe we would do what was right. Nothing in my 32 year experience with the org allowed me to believe this outcome was possible.

I was wrong because, so many times, I had been told I was in the minority, had a bad attitude, and needed to conform or leave.

I was wrong because I looked at the aged voting bloc on Thursday, and misjudged them horribly.

Bottom line?

I was wrong because I dared not allow hope to enter my thoughts regarding the resolution.

But I am glad I was wrong, and I am stilll in shock.

Gonna take a while for this to sink in.

She was involved in an act of faith. Making that peanut brittle because she knew UPC churches everywhere are going to need the proceeds to fund their television ministries.

Keep mixing and baking there sister! We're going to need another 20 tons just from your kitchen.

I agree with you here Easty, I hope there are no personal agendas here. But I disagree with almost everything else. Why is it that most of the ones that are against TV say it is a time consumer and puts evil thing in your mind? I agree it can be a time consumer, but until it consumes your time it is not a time consumer. For some people and children out there is it a time consumer or baby sitter, but it is not this way for everyone. I Have heard for years that tv is evil and such. 'It is a time consumer' and the like. But I know people that do not have a tv and believe it is wrong and preach against it consuming time that should be spent reachnig the lost, but yet these people are all talk cause they rarely do anything close to outreach.

I know of at least one church that was so uch against TV that they preached against it a ton. Guess what the church had been there some 20 years and only had 30 people going. Thank God for 30 people, but most of those were family memebers of the original saints. They had very few converts and were not able to keep the ones that came in because of the UC stance on everything.

I think that it is a copout that some men and women get in front of their people and preach the evils of tv to the point that the ........ anyone that has one. It is a copout or as a friend of mine likes to say it a "pitch and catch" mentality. I will follow what benefits me and my priorities and if it dont' fit in my box of stuff then it is damnable. This is a horrible way to approach tv.

As most of you know I was raised in an ALJC church that has been producting a tv program for some 30 years. There have been alot at least 200 people that have come in because of the tv outreach. Some on the other day was mentioning First Apostolic Church of Maryville, TN. They were a daughter work of the church I came from. Now FAC of Maryville has a great program that is first class and they do not take away from preaching the truth. The pastor preaches it as hard as he preaches anything and it works. Since starting the program they have had to start a building program cause they can not seat all the visitors. They have to seat them at tables in the fellowship hall and down the hallways. Some of the people that are there for services do not even get to see what is going on because the are sitting in the hallways. This is how tv can be a possitive thing for this movement. I say if you are going to do it do so first class all the way. You have to plant to harvest. This is another way of planting seed.

You were wrong. The numbers are 52% to 48% pro res 4.

Why did you miss it?

What do you attribute this to??

Are you also wrong about the current direction of the UPC in other areas?

Some will likely leave over this vote. Does this strengthen the progressive movement within the church even more?

Ya got the mic.
First off if you are 43 or older like I am. I lived in Ft. Worth when this happened back in 1975-1976.

It should have been ratified and passed at GC in 1975 at the Ft. Worth Conference.

This resolution took 30 plus years and many men in the organization with it over the past 3 decades.

It is not about being wrong about the UPC in the passing or failing of this resolution.

It's understanding that the UPC has been so far behind the Pillar of Fire by night and the cloud by day.

Here's a shocker. I'm not a big fan of most tv evangelists either.

I was also wrong because I truly thought there would be more debate last Friday. Instead, other than Kevin Prince, the conservative voices were absolutely silent.

I don't understand why.

The only thing I can think of is that many of them were overly confident that the resolution would fail.
