I preached at a country church and someone
gave me a Live Frying size Chicken -
Bro Jackson had an old Red Rooster that chased
his kids.
We stopped by their home and he heard the chicken
squawking in the trunk of our car and went out to
investigate.
He told me that I Had a puny little ole Chicken and
that he was going to help me out, then he took me
to the back of his house and showed me that
" Fine Large Red Rooster ",

* note --> Gordon Jackson Was An Orator !
{ even tho he had about a 4th grade education},
He Could Hear A Good Sermon Preached One Time
at a Conference,
Come Home To His Church
and
Preach It Word For Word
Even Better That The Original Preacher !@
So You See --
I Didn't Have A Chance -

He extolled all of the Beauty and Size of that Rooster
My, It Was So Big
That
We Could Bake Part Of It
Boil Part Of It
Fry Part Of It
Make Chicken-n-Dumplins Out Of Part Of It
and
Still Have Enough Left For Chickin-n-Dressing
So,
as you have already surmised,
I Traded
MY NICE TENDER JUICY FRYING SIZE CHICKEN
For
THAT TOUGH OLD UN-EATABLE RED ROOSTER !
And
R G JACKSON WOULD ROLL WITH LAUGHTER
WHEN HE REPEATEDLY RETOLD THE STORY
AND He NEVER LET ME FORGET IT EITHER !
THAT " CHICKIN TRADIN " FOR YEARS !


You See
I Was Newly Wedded To a Yankee Lady
and
wuz trying to teach her how to be a good
Southern Cook .

For Example
I would make 'Cat Head Biscuits" that would
melt in your mouth
But hers could be used as Coasters -

She had prepared for me a Fine Dinner
consisting of Yeast Rolls, Hominy, Fried Chicken,
Corn on the cob, Mashed Potatoes and Pinto Beans.

Yeast Rolls ; recipe called for 2 cakes of Bakers
Yeast
{she went to the bakery and got 2 commercial}

Hominy ; it was drained, placed in an egg batter,
rolled in corn meal and fried crisp.

Fried Chicken ; it was cut in half and pan fried
{outer was well done but raw inside}

Corn On The Cob ' it wad dried Indian Corn

Mashed Potatoes ; mayonnaise was used instead of
milk & butter ,

Pinto Beans ; 1 pound of dried beans was boiled
for 20 Minutes .


We managed to get thru those cooking disasters
UNTIL
I Took Her Yeast Rolls To The Church Picnic -

All Was Going Well
We Had Eaten
And Some Of Us Were Playing Soft Ball.
I Was The Pitcher
And A Ball Was Hit Going FOUL and
landed near my wife.

I Yelled " Sweetheart, Toss Me The Foul Ball "
She Picked It Up

AND

At That Precise Time And Place

We Both Realized

That
I Should Have Left

Those

In The Garbage Can At Home !

Back in the late '40s I would sing on
R G Jackson's live Radio program in Corinth
every Saturday when he Pastored the Church
in Henderson Tennessee.

I had a major Head On Auto Accident that totaled
my Black '57 Chevy 2dr Bel Air Hardtop at the Gorham
turn-off on Illinois Rte 3 on June 8th 1957 and we were
transported to the Murphysboro Hospital.

We were scheduled to be in Revival with the Jacksons
in the Murphysboro Illinois Church.
Bro & Sis Jackson took my wife to South Bend while I
spent 4 long weeks recouperating and Sears Allstate
Insurance Company had a replacement '57 Chevy sent
to the Grob Chevrolet Dealership in Murphysboro, Ill.

I am laughing my head off at one more of your good stories.

Say, I saved a couple of them. I especially like the one of the young fellow that showed up at your church with cuffs in his pants and sporting a gold Cross pen in his pocket.

I still laugh at that one now and then.
