Great, I can wear shorts below my knee then.

Oh that an easy, sinful heart.

If the church, UPC as a whole, would do better teaching about sex and how it is supposed to go instead of only saying "It's a sin!" it might bring about a whole new culture--a positive one. With all that being said...it is strong verbage to call anyone a harlot for following where God is leading them...Hometown Guy needs to think about how God sees His people. He looks at them through glasses of grace and not goggles of judgment.

If the HOME, as a whole, would "train up", teach, their children "in the way they SHOULD go, it could possibly bring about a posiitve change. Instead of shrugging their GOD-given responsibility as parents, and leaving it up to the church, to do what they have neglected to do. That would be a good thing.
In some cases, the church is many children's only hope. But ideally, it is the Home's responsiblity to "train up" one's OWN children, "in the way they SHOULD go! IT just seems easier to blame the church for all the ills the HOME
neglected to do.

I tend to agree, but to be honest if you are a "youngen" and your mother and father are talking with you about sex and other topics and trying to be real, tender and honest all at once and the church just approaches it ONLY as "It is a sin and you'll go to hell for it" I think that will make the larger impact in the mind and heart of the "youngen" than the parents willingness to handle it differently. The parents shouldn't have to back up the churches teaching, but the church should confirm how the parents "train a child" but that isn't what is happening.
I know that how I will teach my child about sex and life things and how the church I was raised in was about these topics and there would CLEARLY be some issues. Once in a service at my old church the pastor said, "If you get in tha back seat with a boy and have sex with them you are a harlot." That isn't the truth anymore than drinking one beer makes you a drunk. He should have said, "it is not healthy ( before marriage ), wise and wholesome, yes it is a sin, but God's grace can wipe that away and help you keep yourself until marriage...etc." But he didn't and my parents told me this last part and they also told me that it was my body and my choice to make eventally and I would be between God and I, but they in no way agreed with me having sex before marriage. It's a fine line and I am not trying to say that the church is solely responsible to teach them. But, as a parent, it is difficult to deal with when you are trying to teach your child (ren) with tact and resposibility that it is not right and then the preacher and other teachers NEVER mention anything healthy about it and only rail against it in order to keep the kids from having kids or whatever. They should approach it in a better manner.

Wow. Amazing post.
And who are "those harlots?" All women who cut their hair, wear makeup and pants -- or just the ones that these poor oneness men ran to?

Cause God knows that all women who adhere to the Pentecostal standards never, ever turn out to be adulteresses.
NOT.

Oh my... the 450 pound pastor pounding the pulpit and expounding on the evils of nicotine and alcohol...While his morbidly obese congregation goes wild... Its an Apostolic hoedown! Hilarious!!!
Preach on about modest dress in a congregation full of $1,000 suits, $300 dresses and $150 shoes... with hair that is no longer even hair but is ART... piled up a full foot from heads everywhere... With out teen in the skimpiest sun dress with a long sleeved T underneath to make it Pentecostal legal.
Is it any wonder that most people don't get us at all? One bro. wore long sleeves through and entire summer through 110 degree days in the warehouse he works in so he would appear godly... Everyone thought he had a drug problem and was hiding track marks.... sakes alive!
