Fine. Let's do basketball. That was my best sport. Not my favorite, but my best.

You know what, Prax, I'd have to say the same thing. Growing up UPC was pretty depressing at times, but once a year, I saw hope. If it weren't for the camp meetings, I'd have been a much bigger mess than I was. And I actually do remember a few of the sermons. And I can rattle off names of friends that I'd love to talk to again. And I lived for the softball games. So I agree...great memories.

At the ALJC camp in Ohio we had softball games and we had preachers who were against it.
One year the big rage was some kind of a stabilizing bar filled with mercury you could fasten down to the floor of your car trunk to provide greater stabilization so you could go around curves in the road faster. Preachers were driving pretty fast through the campground showing it off.

Re: Camp Meetings. What do you expect out of them?
I would not take a new convert or anyone I was trying to win to Christ to a campmeeting service. They'll see the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want to protect my new converts from the bad and the ugly.
Most new people aren't ready for that type of enviromnent. That energy is very difficult for mature christians to sustain let alone a new christian.
I have good memories of church camp. Nothing extraordinary.
The real life changer for me was Mid-Winter Youth Retreat.

Re: Camp Meetings. What do you expect out of them?
I have seen many people filled with the Holy Ghost at camps. Many "backsliders" get back in touch with God and many new converts just totally absorbed in the presence of God and the excitement, want to come back home and get right to work.

Ditto, Prax!
We've been going to Campmeetings since the early sixties, and I've never been to one that I didn't enjoy. In fact, we will be going to Louisiana Campmeeting week after next. That's always good! Even has padded pews and air conditioning!
