Re: No new converts noticed at the AMC Confernce
Well, I guess the bitter, backslidden Pentecostal person would be me....although I'm not bitter, I'm still involved in ministry...
I said earlier that I did not intend to be insulting, but some of the hairstyles are EXTREME...come on! You have to admit that some of the styles are over the top (so to speak). Like the big single curl strategically placed above the forehead as if the roller had been just removed without brushing it out. Or the elaborate. flower made of strands of hair and Aquanetted to the side of the head. Or the lacquered bubble curls that stack about a foot above the head.

I will agree that simple almost always looks best! Case in point:
(And yes, I have posted this before -actually a few times over the past year or so, but it makes the various points when discussing hair so well!)

If you can sew something, why not sew a nice "modest" outfit that is not quite so 16th Century?
If it doesn't take too long put your hair up, why not choose a style that doesn't make quite so much of a STATEMENT???
And why post vicious generalizations about JCMers who aren't hurting anyone, just trying to stay connected with good friends at a reunion? Heard some tough stuff being said by nice Christian folks pretty much lumping us all into the same vat of debauchery. Ha! Oh well...had fun anyway!

is blue a sin? Sounds like an exclusive club

- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Just remember the Scripture that says, "....the higher the hair, the closer to God..."

Dora, I was not refering to you, you have said you aren't trying to be insulting but it is coming across in several posts.
I can agree that some are excessive, but you never compared it to adornment,
if they didn't fix their hair I can just see the comments, not necessarily from you, on how "homely" they would be, they really can't do anything right, except leave and become charismatic in all things?

My point is that their efforts to conform to the standards set by their authority figures have led these women to "adorn" themselves in a manner that calls undue negative attention to them. How is this supposed to glorify God and bring others to salvation? I just don't get it....Lord help!

Dora , I was not going to comment on this thread but after reading your post , I remembered when I was about 14 years old sitting behind a upcer sister in a convention by the way it was not upc , and all thru the service i had to swing from side to side to be able to see the preacher , because he used antics for a lot of his preaching i missed out on that sermon. talk about gravity defying . I was so disapointed because we did not have a pastor at the time and I was very hungry for the word of God . The bible says that we should be like sara humble and modest .

Re: No new converts noticed at the AMC Confernce
By the way i love upc brothers and sisters my post was not to citicise them in any way . when i was a child , we shared a church with the UPC , we were three Jesus name churches renting the same building . i learned to love all my brethren even if i dont agree with the doctrine they preach. I believe in babtism in Jesus name , evidence of speaking in other tongues , living a holy life before God as apart from the world as possible, in offerings and not the tithe. also that the holy supper is spritual and we do it everytime we open our bibles at church, that the oil is the Holy Ghost , and that the washing of feet is spiritual and was the babtism of the apostoles. i do not believe in holy hair.

Re: No new converts noticed at the AMC Confernce
I find bitterness as well as envy in some of the posts here. I'm a firm believer that if you are going to walk away from UPC or any other organization do so (as I did 25 years ago) and don't look back until you are ready to come back (as I did four years ago) and by all means don't criticize and poke fun at those who believe as you did in the past. God may judge you if you are wrong. UPC has some of the most beautiful women in the world with their long hair and lack of makeup and jewelry. There's enough of other things to criticize without criticizing any of God's people. Goid will have the final word.
