John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments."

Sounds conditional to me toward verse 14 and 16.

Re: Is the Bible clear?

The Bible is VERY clear on EVERYTHING. People who don't think it's clear are just looking for excuses not to obey. I know because I have seen it.

People who wear jewelry just use those verses in the Bible where they wore jewelry and it was a blessing from God as an EXCUSE to wear it now! We all know that the Bible says not to wear it. They wore it then because God winked at their ignorance in those days but He calls men everywhere now to REPENT!

The Bible clearly says that we should be consciencious objectors (as does the UPC manual!) and those that go to war are just using the times that God commanded Israelites to kill as an excuse! We all know that Jesus said not to use the sword! People pretend to use the scripture about God being the same today, yesterday and forever as an excuse to go to war and they act like it is spiritual warfare or something. They are probably joining so they can get money for those ungodly secular colleges that fill their minds with things that make them stray from God. Woo with knowledge and that is what got Adam and Eve in trouble in the first place.

Those who want to go against their spiritual leaders uses Jesus and the disciples picking corn on the Sabbath as an EXCUSE! Just because Jesus bucked up against the spiritual leaders of his day doesn't mean you should ever do it. Jesus was RIGHT and YOU are WRONG!

The Bible is very clear on everything and anything. That is why when I have a problem or question I just pray and stick my finger in the middle of whatever I open up and I get my answers. My life is just fine!

I have to go now, my bishop is here to visit. My husband is in the barn. I wonder if he will come up to the house.

Bye.

Thanks, Emma! Your wisdom is always appreciated and sorely needed. Well, at least it's sorely needed.

If Jesus actually had in mind that whatever we ask in His name according to God's will, He probably would have said that instead of what He did say. Perhaps the writer of 1 John noticed the obvious problem with the statement in John (that it's not true) and corrected it, rather than explained it?

Either way (corrected or explained) what we end up with is an utterly pointless statement. It says that God will do what we ask Him to, if He wants to. You could say the same thing about me!

Timmy,
Obviously, the text in John 14 is addressing the very fact of who He is - John 14:11 "Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake." He has all power in heaven and in earth.

It would be a stretch that any of these men thought they could jump off a building and God would heal them. The "ask anything in my name" is only logically conditional and focusing on the power He possesses.

You wouldn't give me something that is bad for me, would you? Never mind, let me rephrase that. LOL!

But that's a good point. Ask me to do something, and if it's in my power to do, I will very likely do it. Can you say that about God? (Let me guess: you'll say yes, God does things for you and other believers all the time. OK. Walk into the nearest children's hospital and ask Him to heal every kid there. Is it in His power to do? Will He?)

Timmy,
There is no possible way that I could sit here and try to figure out the complexities of life and God's ways. I just do not know and I have no answers.

Now, I have an e-mail that I have to address. I wish I had some good answers because this person just will not ever listen!!!! Arghhh! If you don't want to hear the truth, then don't ask me to comment! Lord, this is so frustrating!

Maybe you could pray for me. I want to tear this person's head off, but I can't because I could destroy their already fragile life.

Timmy,
I struggle with this very same thing. I am part of a team who makes calls to homes, hospitals, nursing homes, etc. and pray for people. I've been doing this for years. I have no idea how many people I've prayed for over the years but it is a lot.

I have never prayed for someone in a hospital and have them jump out of bed and run up and down the hallways shouting, "Thank God, I'm healed!! It's a miracle!!'

Some we have prayed for have died. Some have recovered but maybe faster than what their doctors thought. Some have lived or recovered when they were not expected to. For those there was no other explanation than God. I don't have an answer. I do believe the Bible teaches that God is a Healer and that He heals today. I wish it happened more often.

All I can do is keep praying and leave the results up to God.

Just forward it to me, and I'll take it from here.
