IMO this is one of those teachings that have come to us through tradition based on God saying the woman would have pain multiplied in childbirth as a result of her sin.

Question! How much is 0 multiplied by any number ?

You can't multiply what didn't already exist.
Hypothetical .. Before the fall .... [mean to be punny]

if Adam had jumped from a hundred foot ravine ... he would have felt the pain ... and possibly disfigured ... but would not have died???

Before the fall he would have had enough sense not to jump!

So you honestly don't think Adam and Eve could experience pain? Pain is a neurological part of the human anatomy. Even animals experience pain and it's not because of sin.

Vulnerability to diease is also a part of the human physiology. (Anatomy means body parts)

But it wasn't until the fall.

To the woman he said,
"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;
with pain you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you." (
Gen.3:16)

It is obvious she was going to experience pain anyway in childbirth, but it would be increased as a result of her sin.

As I said earlier, 0 multiplied by any number is still 0. Pain had to exist in order to be multiplied or be increased.

Rather than pain existing, based on sentence structure, this passage would indicate to me that she had experienced child birth without pain. Thus the curse "with pain you will give birth to children".

Apparently no one has any Scripture to justify making the statement that pain is the result of the curse, so we'll just leave it at that.
