Come on! As one who was a recreational user -comparing that to some pills that the doc has prescribed... the pot had no lasting side effects. The pills were BAAAD.... I threw out my prescription!
stew, I agree that our laws have become skewed as it relates to things like MJ and other non-violent drug related crimes.
there certainly needs to be a re-evaluation of these things for sure. dont confuse my belief that we should not legalize all MJ with meaning I think laws against it are ok as is.
it seems to me our reaction to MJ especially has been poorly thought out.
the studies I have seen suggest that MJ in particular has a very serious danger of leading to mental illness at greater rates than a number of other legal and non-legal drugs. especially in people under 21.
Having seen two first cousins, from opposite sides of my family, and an ex-husband completely derail their lives from the use of MJ, I have to say that although I have no problem with it being used medically (controlled) I have a big problem with legalizing it for recreational use. I realize that it can be readily attained as it is, but knowing what I know about it makes me shudder to think of it being more available than it already is.
My experience has shown me that it almost always leads to harder drugs. But, in the case of one of my cousins, mj was all it took for her to completely shut down, give up caring about making anything of her life, and eventually to lose custody of her child. I am not a fan.

So sad!
I despise drug use (not the user) of any kind. It's hard for me to wrap my brain around the fact people become the drug and completely block out all sane judgment.-I guess being a Mom, it just breaks my heart to hear stories like this.
Since we started our recovery house for women like your cousin, I hear stories like this all the time now. But I am glad to know at least some are trying to turn them selves around.

I know Jeanie, it is just so sad. I agree, as a mother, it just is incomprehensible to me, but I have seen it over and over again.
Drugs are just devastating, and I don't even need to see studies or data to see what happens so often when people just start to dabble with so called soft drugs.
My other cousin that I referred to had a master degree in education, was happily married and one of the most responsible people I have ever known. She and her husband decided that she had not experienced enough of life, growing up sheltered in the church. She started by using MJ, and then moved on to going to clubs and taking ecstasy. She wound up divorced, bankrupt, and in a mental facility. Thank God that she held on and turned her life around, but it was a long, hard road for her.
That being said, should it be okay in any setting? Especially if it will cause this kind of adverse affect.
well that would be silly wouldnt it?
I dont think letting a 7 year old get a contact buzz would be a good thing.
I dont think toking up in a resturant or a grocery store or riding in a car (where the driver could become imparied) are the kinds of things that ought to be done. who does?

One would think there would be a whole lot more 33 yr old Schizo's.
600% greater than the average population doesnt translate into every smoker bro. first take the total population of people with mental disorders, then figure that 3 out of 4 (or some such) used pot.
that doesnt mean 3 out of 4 smokers are mentally impared.

Just trying to understand your logic, all is good Brother.
