Do you remember Lansing, Il. they were not conservative either. I just do not remember the issues concerning the Sherman church. I put little or no stock in a site created by these type of folks.

He was a tremendous speaker on the WYCA daily built that magnificent buidling for that era of time. So sad.

No, they have been out for near 30 years, an unfortunate example of one man ...woman rule.
Serious damage to the UPC reputation in the area, they had had a huge debate with Marvin Hicks sponsored by this church just prior to this junk hitting the fan. Major damage to many, many families. This church was the largest in our district when I was growing up, had many conferences and youth meetings there. Was broken hearted when it all broke, because the church was so visible it was even more damaging. Sad, sad!

It had to have been the late 70's then, I remember the investigation went on awhile. Just a big mess, and apparently it has carried over to another generation and was going on when they got out of the UPC and started a new church.

Amen, I remember my sister and I just crying our hearts out. It affected many churches and families. I think we visited their church back then. It was so beautiful.

Steve,
I don't like the idea of this type of site, but many of the folks have relatives still caught up in this sad situation. Some haven't been able to have any kind of relationship with their children for 30 years, because the kids have been convinced that their parents are reprobate. This was not a particularly liberal church prior to this some coming out, CG was presbyter and well respected before hand.
