Now, about that looking different and showing love thing... I agree wholeheartedly. Before I met my husband I know nothing about apostolic people and had never heard of anything called apostolic. I did, in a charismatic church, receive a prophetic word for my son, who was about 4 or 5 at the time, saying he would be in apostolic ministry, though. I always wondered what that was.

What I did know about was the local UPC church...and it seemed to me that they were the most miserable, uppity people around. Here I was among the charismatics and had a lot of joy in my relationship with the Lord and these people could not even smile back at me in a restaurant. I DID NOT WANT what they had!!! I am sure that no one else did either.

Otherwise, I had no idea that there was a difference of doctrine whatsoever... I am glad that God brought me to it despite them.
We had a someone recently tell us about a restaurant that people regularly visited during an annual church camp. She said that the restaurant employees referred to that week as "Hell Week" and people would try not to work it because the Pentecostal patrons were the worst. I think that that is one of the most abominable things I have ever heard, and I don't care what those people were wearing or not wearing, they are not Holy.

Sister Cheesestix,

Don't be too hard on yourself! Everyone has their breaking point and it appeared you and I pretty much crossed that line together on this thread!

Just know that you have many people who pray for you and love you in spite of your conservate ways.

Wow, okay I really appreciate that.

Oh, yeah, I remember those days. I waited tables while in college and Sundays (especially evening) was the day that no one wanted to work, because of one particular church in Houston would go eat at that restaurant after service. You would swear that they served lemons and sour candy while leaving church, because they wore the longest, sullen faces. Tips, well, they were just about nonexistent.

I remember being so embarrassed about the negative perception that my co-workers had that I was afraid to tell them that I was Apostolic too (I went to a church across town). I got busted though when I guy who went to my church was visiting a girl from that church one Sunday night. Of all the sections he could have been seated in with a crew of several penes, he was seated in mine. Of course, my co-workers found out about me being Apostolic, which served me right for being ashamed. Gotta love those life's lessons...

I have made it my mission to try and change the minds of as many waitstaff as possible since that time.

Thank you CB1. Bill seriously, your sweeping generalizations are old, so is your oh so eloquent pontificating of the evils of the conservative side of the fence. I don't think anyone here cares anymore about your history in the waffle house, but your little grandios speeches are nauseating.

And, no, I don't admit anything of the kind as far as what is being preached in the majority of churches. YOU hear what YOU like to hear. Don't say what is not there if you don't want to lose whatever credibility you have left.

Now for years I have thought that UPC meant Under Privileged Children but maybe it means Uppity Pentecostal Church.

That is just wrong, Sam.

AMEN to that!!!! I worked in restaurants for YEARS and it wasn't the church people in general that were the problem, (Myfavourites were the Congregationalist old folks and the Assemblies of God folks) the people that were so horrible were the APOSTOLIC church people! What in heavens name was it that made them so absolutely intolerable I couldn't begin to tell you. Many is the Sunday night that I had to work and at about 8 pm all the waitresses would come to me and say "They are YOU'RE church people YOU wait on them" One poor waitress was so completely insulted, glared at, even had her job threatened by some of them, that she went in the kitchen and just cried and cried and cried. She was so shaken by the wretched treatment she received that we actually had to send her home. Where upon yours truly took over the dining room where TWO different Apostolic church groups were holding court and it was INCREDIBLE. The glares, complaints, and best of all at the end from the one group of thirty plus people was left a ONE DOLLAR TIP. The other group left a few one dollar bills, which I then watched their teenage sons jokingly go around and pocket before walking out. MAYBE they learned this behaviour from Sister Jean Urshan who used to "Warm up" the ladies groups with HER story of how when she and Nathaniel were just starting out in the ministry, they were so poor that she would get the money to buy him new suits by pocketing the various tips left by their own church people when they all went out to eat together after sunday night service. What a funny story huh?

Anyway one of my stock farewells to those folks was "Thank God I am already baptized in Jesus Name and Filled with the Holy Gost before I met you, because if I heard the Gospel from anyone of you after being exposed to your behaviour I wouldn't want a thing to do with it!

I think that we forget so many times if it even crosses our mind at all that the ONLY place most people EVER see Apostolic people gathered together is not church but rather in RESTARAUNTS and to say that many times we are batting zero in that department is to put it mildly.

They say that about the Baptists here. Guess it is just according to where you are. Either way that is a shame.

When I first read the above I considered asking you the acronym for your church or organization so I could do the same for yours....

....but then I realized that it would be just as petty, foolish and immature as what you wrote here on this thread on at least two occassions...
