Re: Garden Fresh Vegetables

We have our tomatoes planted. Now if our "CITY" varmits stay away, I'll be grateful! I live IN THE MIDDLE of town and we have rabbits that just LOVE our produce! LOL

My favorite summer meal is: Fried yellow squash, fried green tomatoes, fresh corn on the cob, fresh green beans, new potatoes and cornbread. Now I also need some fresh ripe tomatoes as well. When my Memaw Carrie was alive she would fry sweet potatoes in butter and sugar just for ME! THAT is my favorite meal!

Re: Garden Fresh Vegetables

We picked some squash, cucumbers, and onions today. Yummy fried squash. Oh I almost forgot more jalapenos and banana peppers too. I can't wait for some fresh tomatoes, and I love tomato sandwiches.

Wish I could have found figs this year, but no luck!
If you have squash blossoms you need to try the deep fried squash blossoms! I'm still lookin' for them in Kentucky! My stepdad doesn't have any yet and neither does my auntie!

Re: Garden Fresh Vegetables

We do have some squash blossoms, we did pick a couple of bell peppers today. I am thinking about trying a veggie pizza. What kind of batter do you use for the squash blossoms? Our new fig tree is getting huge and has lots of little figs growing, and our peach trees are doin great, saw a lot of peaches.

Re: Garden Fresh Vegetables

The other day while out in the garden, I noticed that I had planted a couple of cucumber plants without even knowing it!!! They were mixed in with my squash and zucchini and the best I could guess was that they somehow were placed with the squash or zucchini plants while at Lowe's. I was pleasantly surprised because I do love fresh cucumbers.

I have several cucumbers on the vine and one of them was at least seven inches long. lol

I have around a dozen or so tomatoes that have ripened and are ready to be picked this morning.

I see a BLT in my not so distant future...yum!
