I believe in being faithful to your local assembly, and I know that there is very good reasons that you have to miss from time to time...but as a Pastors wife I have heard alot of different excuses as to why so and so was going to miss Church.
I do believe I have heard the best of the best.
But I would like to hear from others what excuses they have heard or maybe even given as an excuse.
Before I got married my pastor would tell soon-to-be-married couples that they better NOT be in church Sunday morning (assuming they were being married Sat night). hee hee hee
Excuse me? We have to give excuses for missing church? I'm sorry but I have a BIG problem with that kind of control issue.
If you think there is a problem with their relationship with the Lord and that is why they are staying home, then IN LOVE approach them about that and see if there is anything you can do to help.

But to tell people that they have to give an excuse to miss church............ I'm sorry, but that kind of thing makes me crazy!
Margie, Your post is as far as I got and since you said it so well, I will just say AMEN!

What is funny to me is that some pastors want the saints to call when they will be out, but if they are gone, it is all hush hush...
**For the record, I am all for pastors getting away and resting**
Yes they should get away, for the record I'm all for it too.
We all need to get away once or twice a year.
It gets old when it happens several times a month. You never know who's going to be preaching when you get there. Who do you call to give your excuse to when you need to be away??
Guess I could just post it here then he could read it here too.
On occaision I visit at a Missouri Synod Lutheran church where a friend of mine pastors.
I alays find it interesting that there is no great congratulation for coming to church. No handclapping for visitors or self exaltation for all who chose to be in the assemby of believers. Yet I always feel very welcome and am greeted warmly by individuals.
It's interesting to see how, in an effort to thwart traditionalism, we develope traditions of our own...
