Someone on my mother's paternal side traced the family history to something like 1741 when Joseph Paitsel came over from Europe. They can't trace it any farther, as they believe he changed the spelling of his name upon coming to America. Paesel might be a possibility, but I'm related to any and all Paitsels.

Yes sir... that would tend to be so.

There were lots of Smiths because when they began making surnames there were lots of Blacksmiths.

There were lots of Johnsons because there were lots of Johns sons.

There were lots of Millers because there were lots of those who were millers
