You're lucky. She wants me to watch about 100 hours of videos.

Timmy, I'm sure as an agnostic, you have been asked this question many times.
Do you believe in eternal life? What do you believe happens to a person after death?
I believe our consciousness is a function of our brains, and, IMO, always will be. No brain activity, no consciousness. We will not "wake up" on the other side. We will just end.
Some people think this is a sad thing, but I don't. Of course, it would be nice to see my loved ones again, but in the here and now, I have them with me, and the memories of the ones who died before me. To believe in an afterlife that has two possible destinations, one good and one bad, depending on certain things in this life (whether actions/works or belief/faith or something else) is, IMO, horrible.
IMO, it is best to live this life for its own merit. For many reasons.

So...you do not believe in the essence of your soul?
It certainly would be the easy way of thinking that when our life is over, we would just blitz out and there would be no consciousness of anything.
But...I think mankind misrepresents God's love towards us in so many ways that it frustrates us into thinking why should we be anything other than what we are because no matter what we do, we will end up in hell anyway.
Think of it...
If a woman cuts her hair, wears pants or jewelry... she's gonna burn.
If a man does not pay 10% of his income "to God" (we are told)...he's gonna burn.
What does God need with paper money? He doesn't. He owns everything and gives to us according to His pleasure and according to our needs when we ask Him.

Oh, there are pros and cons on both sides of the issue, sure. And you are wise not to fret and fuss over when you will burn in hell for some nit picky thing or other. I agree that God would not (even if I'm wrong about the afterlife question) punish anyone for such nonsense.
But what would He punish people for? There are many views of this matter, of course. One view that is popular around here is that God will punish (forever in flames) those who don't believe in Him, believe that the Bible is His Word, and obey His Word. (Details on what obedience means are another matter!) And this is where I have a serious problem: why would God put such a requirement on every one of us? We have to choose which purported holy book to believe? And we have to choose the right method of obedience, to get a good afterlife? We have to believe some people that say God told them the way, and disbelieve others?
Not buying it. Not anymore.

I agree that there are many views on the matter.
I even have a view, not that it means anything to anybody else. In fact, I am sure that my view is dismissed because of my being a female (do not teach or usurp the man mentality) and that I do not hold a man-ordained ministerial license.
I do not think that God requires us to live how some other man tells us to live. Just because God told the other person something, does not mean it applies to you or me.
This is why Jesus wants us to know Him, individually. I must look to Jesus himself for my salvation.
Doing that is something that no man or woman can instruct you how. Each must find their own way ....their own connection to God.
The Bible has been used as a weapon by many who want control and power over another. I can see why many people totally dismisses the Word as God's authority. It's because man has abused it.
However, nobody can interfere with yours or mine sincere prayer to God asking Him to manifest Himself to us in a personal way.
